IUI done on wrong day?
I'm not cut out for this mess!
I had my IUI on Monday because on Sunday I "kindof" had an LH surge. I don't believe that's what it was, but they did an u/s on Monday and determined I could have surged... and then did an IUI. My temp was stable the entire time, and only this morning did it leap up. So... would that mean that I didn't actually ovulate until today? We had BMS last night, BUT I am using the Estring (not Ering, as I previously posted). Which, in case you're curious, is NOT the size of a nice little ring that would fit on your finger. It IS the size of a freaking frisbee. And it is now jammed up inside of me and I just really wonder how I can possibly get prg with that thing up there. I presume she wouldn't have made me use it if it would prevent pregnancy... but I'm just not sure. Here is my chart: http://www.fertilityfriend.com/home/163171 Thanks!

Hi there! From your temps, it looked like you O'd either Monday or yesterday, so Monday's IUI could have done the trick, as could last night's BMS (depending on what day O was). I can't say for sure what day O was because of the missing temps leading up to Monday, but if I had to guess, I'd guess that you O'd on Monday because your temps on Monday and Tuesday seem to be in a post-O range for you (looks like your post-O temps are typically over 98.0).
Where does the Estring sit? Just outside your cervix? If so, then it may feel enormous, but will not prevent pg because it's outside your uterus ! EDITED TO ADD: As shown by links below, there are indications that this ring should NOT be used when ttc because it's not recommended in pg....Good luck and keep us posted+++++++++++ Maura Last edited by BC-Maura; 11-02-2006 at 11:37 AM. |

well, assuming that the missing temps are all 98.2 and below, and your temp stays up, it looks like O took place on wednesday.
don't lose hope. just because you had IUI on monday, and O'd on wed, doesn't meant you won't get pg. plus you BMS'd lastnite, so it sounds like you're covered. my dd was the result of BMS 3 days before I O'd, so it can definitely happen. i'm sorry i'm not familiar with the estring. i'm assuming this has something to do wtih delivering hormones? estrogen maybe? if so, i'm sure your doc would never have you use it if it would interfere with conception. best of luck! let us know what your temp does over the next couple of days.

Thanks Maura,
You are the best at making me feel more rational. On and off I temped on those days- it was either 98.0 or 98.2, pretty consistent. I didn't temp regularly because I wasn't sleeping solidly before the established time to temp. Thanks to my dog, which is another story altogether. Thank you again. I will try to think happy, fertile thoughts. Yes, the thing sits on the outside, but how do I know it's not blocking the way? DH's sperm need to have a great sense of direction to navigate to their destination!! I hope at some point in time I can help YOU ... though chances are interpreting charts or making sense of OPK's will not be the way! ++++++++++++++ to you! |

ok, here's another thought......
i did some research on the estring, and it is in fact a device to deliver estrogen. now i have a really DUMB question......you have meds marked down on your chart up until the day before you got the rise. do you remove this estring, or does it stay in place for the full 3 months? i'll finish my thoughts after you answer.....

Hi Dina!
Thanks for checking out my chart. I'm on Metformin every day, so that's the meds portion of the chart. I put in the Estring last night. It's supposed to stay in place for 3 months. Well now I understand why... I'm not sure how in the #@$% I'm ever going to get it out!?!?! How does it not block the cervix? Next cycle, I adamantly refuse to rely on OPK's. The one from this morning is equally "almost dark" as the one they used to time my IUI. It's all so frustrating. Can't the stork just drop something off on my doorstep? |

ok, so i have to check out exactly what metoform is comprised of. i was originally thinking that the estrogen was keeping your temps down and that when you removed it, the dominant hormone (progest caused your big temp rise) but i guess my theory is blown. also, tell us about this little device. what does it look like? is it like a ring? it can't be like a cap, because i would think that wouldn't be good while TTC. but again, doctors know best.

Dina,
This device of torture is a VERY thick plastic ring- easily as thick as a finger and probably about the size of the shape it makes when you press your middle finger to your thumb. Of course, when I describe it it becomes the diameter of a frisbee.... but that's certainly how it feels when you're trying to insert it. She prescribed it because I complained of dryness and asked if I could take Robitussin (which I'd started secretly drinking anyway). And she said no, you need this Estring thing. Mind you, Robitussin is not tasty, but I'd rather drink a gallon of it than have a "frisbee" stuck inside of me. Maybe it could have affected my temperature? The metformin is for PCOS, I have no idea what it does exactly, I just know that it makes me feel like I have a horrible case of the flu and I have to take it anyway. Not sure how large the opening of my cervix is, but really hope it's large enough not to be blocked. It clearly says that it should not interfere with intercourse... but ??? Really? I just couldn't stop imagining where the thing was exactly going. I guess I feel like BMS while taking clomid never really works? Maybe I'm wrong, I hope I am. I hope there's a package sitting on my doorstep when I get home. I'm really ready for this nightmare to end!!! |

well, i did some research and it seems that the estring is "generally" prescribed to menopaulsal women that have problems with dryness. so in that aspect, i understand why your doc gave it to you, to counteract the clomid, but it just seems that there are much easier and cost efficient ways to skin that cat, KWIM?
as long as it's a "ring" and not any sort of closed cap that covers the cervix, i'm sure those little guys will have no problem with finding their way in. BUT....my BIG question is...why if your going thru IUI would your doc recommend this "torture" device? it seems that BMS is usually just a little "plan B" to the IUI.

Hi there: I'm doing research right now and I agree with Dina... not sure why you were told to use this... in fact, a physician's leaflet I saw said that it should not be used when pregnant! See this:
http://pdftohtml.markoer.org/pdf2htm...g.pdf&ID=98320 I'm going to keep looking.... in the meantime, I'd call your doctor and see what she says! +++++++++++++++ Maura |
