New Here and Just starting Clomid

Hi Everyone,
My DH and I have been TTC for almost 3 years. After the first year we got referred to a wonderful Fertility Specialist (saw him for the first time around September of 2005) who gave me a HSG and found a blockage in one tube. I had a Lap in July of this year and he removed some endometreosis from one tube and instead of it being a blockage in the other it was actually a pouch that "should not" interfere with Getting Pregnant. My wonderful dr got a job in a different area so I got a new dr now. We went and saw her on Monday the 23 of October and she took a look at my scars and said I had healed really nicely and she did a pregnancy test which came back negative and then gave me a prescription for clomid (100mg a day for days 3 - 7 of my cycle). I have never charted (don't really know how or when to start), neither of my dr's has even suggested it to me. I feel as if we are on a fast moving train going nowhere as I am still not pregnant. Anyone else think this is fast? Or is it about the same time frame that everyone else is going? Guess I'm just really confused and want to make sure that I'm doing the right thing.

Hi & Welcome!!!

I'm also taking clomid, hcg trigger + metformin. I like to temp so i can know what's going on with my body. If u want to temp, u have to purchase a bbt thermometer and take your temp everyday when u wake up. And take note of your temps. There are softwares that help to analyze your temps and fertility signs. I used the one from www.fertilityfriend.com it has a free membership.

Good luck with this cycle!!!!!!!

Welcome! I hope your stay is blissfully short.

I agree with Loyda- go ahead and chart. I wish I'd started many months before seeing an RE. I think they're helping me get a grip on what's happening in my body. Plus, you can maybe tell if you are responding to the clomid (ovulating) so you can time intercourse. Will this dr do an ultrasound to monitor you?
I made it clear to my RE that I wanted to be aggressive with this, so I'm definitley on a fast track. I also have endo, and even when it's cleared from your body, it can still interfere with getting prg.
I wish you the best of luck!!

My new dr just said that she would see me in 5 months - no ultrasounds or any tests until that point. Which makes me wonder why my treatment is so different than everyone else's. Maybe its just the way they do things here.

My first RE gave me a prescription for Clomid, told me what days to take it, then sent me on my way for 3 months. I made an appt with another RE and told him my protocol. And said I wondered why I wasn't being monitored. And he agreed with me that I should be. And my first ultrasound showed that I did NOT respond to the medicine and that I had pcos. So I'm glad I made the switch. I needed a higher dosage. It was then explained to me that when you use clomid, your cervical mucus creates a plug almost barricading your uterus. So it's really hard for BMS to work... the sperm has to navigate through almost a closed seal. He said my chances of doing clomid with iui are better, so we know that the sperm is getting where it needs to go.
Now everybody's different... but that's what I think. You might ought to ask to be monitored (especially if you're anxious to get prg) or find another doctor who will monitor you.

Hi Newf

My doctor does an U/S on cd 13 to see if I have a good follie. Then if he sees a good one he gives me an hcg trigger that it suppose to make me ovulate in 24-36 hours. For cm i took evening pimrose oil from cd 1 until Ovulation. Also took guafinasen days 12 - 15... That helped with my cm, because in the last cycle i was really dry... Also, drink a lot of water.

I agree with Writinit, that its good that u get monitored, because with my first & second cycle my ovaries didn't produced a big enough follie. With this cycle it did, but increasing the days of clomid, to 100mg days 2-8, from days 5-9 50mg & 100mg. If I kept on the same dose I maybe wouldn't ovulated this cycle.

Good luck and keep us posted...

Your protocol sounds pretty normal, though I am really surprised at the lack of monitoring. My doc. won't refill my prescription from cycle to cycle without checking me out (she is primarily checking to make sure I don't have any cysts -- that is a side-effect of clomid, and since I have PCOS the risk is even greater). I went through several rounds of clomid alone without much luck before conceiving my first DS. When we TTC our now almost 2 yr DD, I told dr. I wanted to be more aggressive and follow the cycles with u/s. The u/s showed that I needed a higher dose of clomid (your 100 mg./day dose is a medium dose -- a lot of women start with 50 mg., next is 100 mg., and I think normally 150 mg. is about as high as they go before moving on to the next level of treatment (usually injectibles), though I have heard of some women on higher doses.). With the HCG trigger, we were able to time BMS accurately. I also used robitussin to increase the quality of cervical mucas. That protocol worked very well for us, and I was pregnant much quicker that time around. We have to pay out of pocket for all fertility treatment, and the u/s adds about $800-1000 per cycle to the cost, but at least I feel like I have more control and I know what is going on rather than guessing. Using BBT will also help you get a good picture of what is happening in your cycle. For me, the combo of clomid and PCOS meant that OPK's weren't very accurated and left me incredibly frustrated. With the u/s, I no longer use the OPK, but still really like following my BBT chart.

Good luck!

I got my 6 month course of Clomid by a normal OB. All she did was write the script and do a blood test for progesterone. That was her first time seeing me since I had moved. I am not sure about REs and how that works. Best Wishes!

Good luck! My docs plan was to start me out on 3 cycles of 50mg Clomid then go to 3 cycles of 100mg if no success before then. The very first month on the clomid I got pregnant but miscarried after 5 weeks. I went back in to the doc and he put me on 100mg right away after that and I have done 4 cycles since then. Good luck, the Clomid works for a lot of people I hear.

Well everyone I've done the recommended dose and now I have another question. Is it normal for your breasts to get tender while on Clomid or is this a side effect of ovulating or is there just a tiniest chance that I might be pregnant? I was in Walmart today and wanted to buy a test but at the same time I don't because I don't want it to be negative Its all I can do to keep my hopes from skyrocketing. Anyone else have tender breasts after they took clomid?
