Ovulation pain or Cyst? How do you tell? (pg ment.)
Anyone know how to tell the difference between O pain and Cysts?? I have had pain tinges today, could be O pain or Cysts. I've felt this before, and i know it wasnt O pain then, but that was before i got PG with DD. I've been on the pill for a year and just stopped taking it on the 7th, bcp induced AF came on 12th as it should. Anyone know?? TIA

hi cammiesmom.....
it can definitely be O pains, you're on cd 16. do you have visable ewcm? and do you temp or OPK? i'm not exactly certain how you would distinguish between O pain and a cyst, as i don't believe i've ever had a cyst. but i can tell you, you can feel twinges from your ovary for a few days before the follie actually ruptures, and you can feel it throughout the LP. the collapsed follicle (from which the egg is released) fills up with fluid and starts working OT to produce progesterone. so it's not just collapsed and non functioning once O is complete. it still has a function and therfefore it's very possible that you can be feeling something there even tho you're before, during, or after O.

The main reason why i dont think that they are O pains, it because i have had them every once in a while while on BCP, and before when we were ttc DD i had them. I also had them when i was pg with her for the first 9 wks or so, the corpus leutum cyst. I guess i figured the pain was all the same, but it seems as though they were all at different times so they may be different things. I think i just confused myself more LOL. Thanks though for your info, it actually did help me.

the corpus luteum cyst is exactly what i was describing. that's the collapsed follie that fills with fluid. it stands to reason you'd feel it during the first trimester because it's working hard to put out all the necessary progesterone.
the only thing that would have me confused is why you would feel it while on BCP's.

When I had cysts.. they would start after O and always felt bad.. cramping and more cramping. Right before O.. they were not so strong, but then would increase after O and through AF. Even on BCP I had issues with cysts. They are no fun. I had to have mine drained and cauterized.
Best Wishes! |

Thats why i'm not convinced that they are O pains. Although i had them yesterday and thats it...I have PCOS, so i have felt cysts many times. But my regular cysts and the corpus leutum felt the same. The wierd thing is that i only feel the pain on the left side. I've never felt anything on the right. When i was feeling the pain before we concieved dd i was not having AF, i have to take bcp to get it and provera to bring it on when ttc. I was under the impression that you get more cysts when you dont have regular AF, because it just builds up in there. But i have been on bcp for the last year and i still feel it every once in a while...hmmm

Oh, I forgot to add.. my cysts were only on my right side. I would have cramping on that side every month and the left side normally every other. If you are on bcp I believe that you wouldnt have an egg to release... the hormones make it that way for some. Maybe not all of them since different ones have different hormones.
My cycles without bcps were like every other month for AF. I was a mess for over 2 years TTC once I was off of them. They couldnt tell me much about PCOS due to being on the pill... but I had been DX as PCOS at 16 even though I was underweight at that time. Everyone could also be different.. so my case may be different than everyones.. ya know? Best Wishes!!
