Can fertility meds cause late "O"?
Ladies,
This is my first month on letrozole CD3-7 (works like Clomid but supposedly fewer side effects). Today is CD17 and STILL no "O"!! On all of my natural cycles before this I consistently O'd on CD14-16. I have been OPK'ing and temping religiously and no surge yet. I kind of thought that taking ferility meds would make O come sooner and regular my cycle but now I am getting nervous. Any words of wisdom would be appreciated!! Thanks.

Hi: I don't know about Letrozole specifically either, although I've seen meds really alter people's O timing so I wouldn't be at all surprised if you O'd later than usual this month... keep OPKing through cd 20 and if still no surge or temp rise, call your doctor... I think you'll probably O in the next few days though.
Good luck and keep us posted+++++++++++++ Maura |

Femera and clomid are supposed to work the same.. however femera is supposed to not have such bad side affects.. hot flashes and such. (Femera is the brand of letrozole)
This medication is supposed to be monitored..It is newer to be used as a fertility med and usually tried after clomid. I do agree with Maura about if you dont see your peak.. contact your Dr. I am not sure how the affect is with those that have not had a problem with O on their own ( you stated you had normal O at CD14-16)... A normal cycle does have O at 14 days.. you need the time for your body to produce the follies!! Its all about hormones and just think you are taking something to make your body think it doesnt have enough estrogen, then in return your body will produce more to get those follies... crazy huh?!Keep us posted! I hope ya dont have too much more time to wait for O!! Best Wishes!! |

Thanks for your helpful responses. Today is CD19 and still no surge on OPK's. I thought for sure I would get the surge today because EWCM is increasing a lot (sorry for TMI). Anyway, I'll test again tomorrow and if still no + on the OPK, I'll call my Dr. to find out what might be going on! I forget to mention in my earlier post that I am also taking a daily dose of dexamethasone for high DHEAS level (I have PCOS but Doc doesn't want me on Metformin yet).
Ferret Mommy - you are correct. I have always been O'ing on my own and have regular cycles 26-28 days in length, which is one reason RE didn't want to put me on Metformin, although I think that it might help me. I'll keep you posted on how things go over the next couple of days. Becky |

Well... hmmm... have they monitored your follies with the femera? Maybe that med isnt right for you. Were you monitored before.. to know if you were Oing on your own? Just wondering.
Sometimes you can produce a follie and not release it? I hope that O happens soon. That would really stink if you could have been better without the femera. Best Wishes! |

No, they have not monitored my follies. This is my first cycle with Femara - should I push to be monitored more? We had our first RE visit earlier this month when he prescribed the Femara and he didn't even mention monitoring me. He did an HSG and everything was normal and did the bloodwork which came back with elevated DHEAS (so he prescribed the dex.). I thought it was kind of strange that he wasn't going to monitor me but didn't say anything.
The only way I confirmed O'ing in all of my previous 12 cycles was with +OPK's and BBT monitoring. I always got a temp shift. I know - it would stink! I was thinking the same thing - I thought that this stuff was supposed to HELP!!

If this doesnt work, I would be so mad and ask many many questions.. you are paying good money for your RE.. and he should be giving answers to why or why not.. ya know?
I believe that most REs do monitor... isnt that their job? I hope it works, but if it doesnt.. be active in your treatment and get answers. If you dont like them.. I would change!!

Well I talked to a nurse today at fertility center and they wanted me to come in tomorrow for CD21 Progesterone B/W. When I got home from work I OPK's and I FINALLY got the + so I should O in the next day or 2. Still much later than ALL of my previous cycles, but at least I got the surge! I am still going to try and get a hold of my actual RE instead of the nurse to see if he is concerned about the late O.
