Prenatals...

Is it just me or is there a brand out there that doesnt smell nasty I cant hardly get them past my nose to take them.

When i was pg with my dd I couldnt take prenatals because of how nauseated (had hyperemesis) i was and whenever i took them i of course seen them again way too soon I did take folic acid but id really like to be able to take prenatals and get into a regular thing with them.

Hey Julie: Hmmm... what brand did I take... I actually LIKED the smell of them! My OB said to take them at night right before bed because then any negative about them would be "lost" when you're asleep... I managed fine taking them at bedtime even when I had m/s with #2... I think I missed a few nights during the really intense m/s, but otherwise, that scheduel worked for me.

Maybe the brand was Ethex?

Good luck finding one that works for you!

Oh man.. I wish I was able to work.. there are a few prenates that smell so yummy in the pharmacy. ( I am a tech on bedrest right now) I believe Premisis Prenatal RX... is one that smells like jordan almonds... then they also have some that are caps now.. so those shouldnt smell. The bad thing is, most generics do smell.. the generics do not have the nice film coating.

I chose a chewable... there are some bad moments.. but I feel better chewing than swollowing those huge things!!

One more thing... have you ever smelled regular vitamins.. they also smell.. so it may not be just a prenate.. it has to do with the minerals and such.. I know.. what is worse.. smell the liquid vitamins they make the kids take... YUCK!! Best Wishes!!!

I totally know what you mean, mine smell AWFUL. They are generic though, so what FerretMommy said could be true. At the moment, I can still manage to take them, but if I get PG and develop an aversion to them, I'll try another brand.

Another question though, anyone elsetake Jamieson Folic Acid, 1mg and find it makes their pee neon yellow?

I take a prescription Prenate.... it's called Vitafol-OB. There is absolutely no smell. They come individually packaged like some cold medicines are packaged...like DayQuill and Sudafed.

guys, I got tired of taking prenatals.. I usually take only after O, but lately even during the 2ww I forget. Do you think that It is bad that I am not taking it consistently?

It is always good to take a vitamin. I used to take a multi vit.. then when I found out I was preg. added the folic acid until I got to my first appt.

The prenate vit is there to make sure that mom is getting the vitamins needed since the baby can take what she takes in with food. If you are eating your fruit and veggies.. you should be fine.

Actually.. if you think about it, some dont take multi vits and then dont start the prenate unitl they go to their Dr. My dr didnt see me until 8 weeks... so I really do not think you need to worry about it at this stage. It is helpful, but not going to hurt if you miss it.

Hi Cibele: I don't think you need to take a loaded up prenatal while ttc because when you next get pg you are going to know VERY early on in the process and will be able to start the vitamin as soon as you get your ++, but my OB said that she wanted me on at least the recommended dosage of folic acid while ttc.

Best to you++++++++++++

Hello*!!! I just take a multi vit...actually I take 2 because on my surgery I had and then I also add IRON, B COMPLEX, VIT E it is a lot of pills to take, but they are so much better then the smell of pre natals.... Plus the thing about starting to take them now is a good routine to get into....that way you are all set once pg.
