Where are my follicle experts?

Anyone know how many follies are good or are too many? And, what sizes they should be? We are on injectibles and cancelled last month's cycle due to too many large follies (there were 6-8). We are doing IUI, not IVF. I think there are 4 good looking ones now, but they are between 10-13. then, a few smaller ones. Is 4 too many? I really don't want multiples
, but DH is OK with that.

How many are too many? what is the optimal number of follies?

Hi there. I'm certainly no expert, but from what I have read, no more than 3-4 follies is ideal. More than that and your risk for multiples is rather high. I believe anywhere between 2 and 4 mature follies is very good. Depending on who you ask, follies should be at least 16-20 mm in size to contain a viable egg. I think most REs want them to be at least 17 or 18mm... but sometimes smaller ones contain a fertilizable egg. What CD are you? Can you wait a couple more days to give the follies time to grow a little more? Good luck!!

I agree just what Dnj said Any more than 3 follies size 18mm or larger my RE used to cancel the cycle, 2 was considered optimal. I only had 1 time that I had 2 not yet 3 so that never happened to me. It sounds like you are early in your cycle still if they are only 10-13. When they do your next u/s you will see how many have matured at that point. Usually once one gets over 20-22mm you will ovulate shortly unless you are going to trigger and then it is up to your RE when to schedule you to trigger.

Thanks Ladies!

I triggered last night. 3 of them look good (I forget the exact size, but in the 18-21 range. There is a 4th that was 17 and may get a little bigger, or may not. We have had 3 follies before and didn't get a BFP, so I'm willing to risk multiples to get there.

Thanks for the input. Feels good to hear that my RE is following the same protocol as other REs.

oh, I am cd15 today with IUI tomorrow. Triggered last night. More info in 2 weeks, I guess
