timing of temp question

hi ladies!

so, refresh my mind here for a minute....i know that when temping, you have to have been sleeping for about 3 hrs in a row to get an accurate temp, right?

i ask, b/c i've been waking up at 4 or 5 am to pee, and i temp at that time b/c i go back to sleep, but only til 6:30-7ish. so, those temps i'm getting at 4-5am are accurate, right? (i go to bed around 1030-11 at night).

TIA for your help!

sarah

Yep, they should be accurate. I would definitely use the 4-5am temps if you are consistently waking at that time. I get up for work at 545, so I set my alarm on the weekends for the same time and just go back to bed so my temps are all at the same time.

I used to get up... well still do.. to go potty.. and I would still use my normal waking time since I was only up for a min or two and would go back to sleep. Thats just my temping experiance and it seemed to work for me. Best Wishes!!

Hi Sarah: Yes, those 4-5 am temps should be accurate since they're after hours of uninterrupted sleep, but one issue I see is the inconsistency if you take them some days at 4 am and somedays at 5. Temps can change by .2 for every hour later they are taken, so your chart might sometimes be hard to read because of the different times taken. Like Kat, I used to wake up at least once during the night (usually more!) to use the bathroom and instead of taking my temp then (because the time varied every night), I just took it upon waking since I tried to wake up at the same time each day. Now sometimes this meant I didn't get a full 3 hours of sleep before taking it, but it didn't seem to matter most months (some months, I did have rocky temps, maybe because of my interrupted sleep!) and I never had trouble detecting O.

Bottom line, do whatever you think you'll stick with and just note any interruptions or changes in the time taken.

Best++++++++++++++++
Maura

I agree with what everyone has said. I would set an alarm for 4:15 -temp and then go to the bathroom and then go back to bed -that will take care of all factors.

thanks maura.....if that's the case, i am certainly NOT going to get up on the weekends at 4am unless i wake up to pee!

so, the 3 hr rule isn't really that important? b/c i'm DEFINETLY up at 7-7:30 am every day no matter what.

what time should i temp at?

Hi Sarah: I would probably temp at 7-7:30 because if you wake up at 4-5, then that's close enough to 3 hours for me. And then you'll be more consistent in your wake-up time!

Good luck++++++++++++++++

i have to ditto everything maura said....including the temping even tho it was not always a full 3 hours of sleep (due to potty runs) but it always seemed to work out fine.
