Question newbie with a question Please help!

Hi everyone, I am new to FT and I have a question I was hoping some of you wonderful ladies could help me with. I want to do an IUI this month and I usually show pos on the opk around cd 14-15, well my problem is this month I started testing this morning on cd 11, just to be sure I diddn't miss my surge this month. Well I took a test this am and it was without a doubt positive! Well I am totally in shock, especially since my husband is in the military and he got leave this month around what I thought would be my o time, and now this is positive almost a week early and he is not here! So now I am freaking out, anyway I started thinking that I had used a new brand of opk's this time and maybe that was it so I took another test, and at the same time used one of my regular brand ones at the same time, well the new test still was clearly positive, and my old brand was very clearly negative!

Has anyone ever had a false positive before? I am wondering if the whole box of the new brand has something wrong with it! The brand I have always used in the past is the target brand and the new kind I tried this month is the Answer brand.. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated, I am so depressed to think I lost my chance this month, because it is so hard to get my husband here for the timing of it, and I thought this month it would work out!

Thanks for listing and for any advice anyone has!

Chris

chris....
sorry to say that i have never had a false positive, in my experience with OPKs. but maybe someone here has? i know my cycle length varies from one cycle to the next. i hope that's not the case with you, since your dh has leave in a few days, and your eggie seems to be here now. crap. that sucks.
's to you!

Hi Chris and welcome to the bb!

First, are you on Clomid this month? I ask because if you take an OPK too soon after finishing the Clomid, you can get a false ++.

If not, you could still have a false surge now and then get your real surge later on when you expect it. The fact that only one brand of OPKs was ++ is reassuring. I think I've read that Answer isn't that reliable for OPKs, so if you have always used the Target one with success and that one is now negative, I'd go with that.

Is this the earliest you've ever tried an OPK? If so, maybe you would have seen other false surges in prior months had you tested on cd 11!

One thing you could do is take your temp first thing in the morning. You won't have a lot of temps to go by, but you still might be able to see whether you get an ovulatory temp rise after this ++OPK.

Bottom line, I wouldn't panic right now because it could all be nothing and you could be going to O when your dh is around. Keep OPKing (I'd go back to the Target and stick with one brand only) and let's see what happens!

Good luck and keep us posted++++++++++++++
Maura

Thanks for anwering! Well today I used both brands again this morning and again the answer brand is pos and the target brand is negative! I think I will take your advice Maura and go buy more of the target brand and keep testing to see if I get a surge with those. And no I did not take clomid, this is a natural cycle, and I have never gotten a pos before day 13-14 very strange. Anyway thanks again!

hi chris.... i'm sorry about the confusion. i also wanted to mention thst women with PCOS often get false pos results. idon't know if that applies to you at all, but thought i'd mention it.

i was always a clear plan/blue fan, whether i was using OPK's or HPT's. a friend of mine gave me some answer opk's once and i had a hard time deciphering if they were pos or neg....i only used them because she gave them too me, but i went right back to my clear plans....no need adding more anxiety to the mix....KWIM?
