I always wanted to see it definitively that you can't have a +ve until after implantation. Thanks.

great article meg...thx for posting it!!

i have to say (and i think maura will agree) ...it's this information that we seem to give out most frequently. and i myself had the experience of testing neg the day of and day after a missed AF. i re-tested 4 days later and it was pos.

hcg is not being produced by the body until after implantation has occurred. implantation can occur as late as 12 dpo. the hcg is what triggers that "second" line on the hpt.

Thanks for the post, Meg... This is the UNC Chapel Hill study that I'm continually talking about when I tell people that up to 10% of pg women get a false negative when testing at the time AF is due ... I'm going to post a link to this up in our pinned thead above!

Thanks again+++++++++++++
Maura

Great article! I was especially interested in the part in which 10% of implantations haven't ocurred by the day the period was due.

Just goes to show, waiting later is better and that even those "super sensitive" HTPs at 20miu can't tell the whole story.
