What is the deal???

Today (SUN) is day 68 for me. I'm late if I go over 45 days. I haven't been that late in 4 years.

I took a hpt on the 15th of this month which would have been day 48 and it was neg. I took another one on day 57 and it was very very faint pos... I didn't believe that it was pos. so I took another and another and another and another... so (you will think I'm a hpt nut for this) but I got several very very very faint pos. and the last 2 tests I took which were First Response Early Result I got neg's...

What the heck?!

Any idea?
Thanks!

Hi Michelle: Here are some possibilities --

1) You are pg and the FREDs are just not working for some reason (maybe urine was diluted? Maybe tests were defective? Maybe HcG level is still low enough that some tests will be negative and some will be positive because the concentration is still low in your urine?)

2) You had a fertilized egg this month which didn't either didn't implant well or which had chromosomal issues -- this could explain why you had some faint positives, followed by negatives.

3) You are not pg and had a series of false positives for some reason.

If I were you, I'd try to get a beta! Just tell your doctor you are very late and tell him/her about these conflicting HPTs!

GOOD LUCK and let us know how things go!

Maura,

How many days past ovulation can you get an accurate hpt... and how many days past implantation can you get an accurate hpt?

I spotted on days 51 and 52 (16 days ago). The spotting was pink mucus. Could this have been ovulation or implantation?

michellei.....implantation cn occur up until 12 dpo. the spotting you experienced could've been either of the things you mentioned, but i'd have to venture tpo say it ws more likely O spotting. hd it been implantation spotting, you should be producing enough hcg in your system by now to trigger pos hpt immeditately.

i agree with maura about speaking to your doc. a beta would surely clear things up.

in answer to your question about hpts, i think it ll depends on implanttion. i've heard women get a pos hpt at 9 dpo. in that case implanation probably took place early, at about 6-7 dpo.

i personally got a (false) neg at 14/15 dpo (based on a cd 14 O) which probably implanted late. so i think it's truly hard to say. i would imagine you need at least a couple of days post-implantaion to have enough hcg build up to trigger the test. and that's using FMU.

good luck!

not sure about your case. I got BPF from 11dpo and the lines just kept getting darker, what brand of test are you using?

i would suggest not using the first response, that was the worst results i got, the line was so faint, it always looked negative. i would go for the early preg test digitals. when you pull the stick out even if the test says negative on the screen, you can still use it like a regular test, the first few times, it said negative, but there were clearly two lines in the window. I know this all sounds kind of weird, but i personally thought those first response tests sucked.
