will prometrium suppress my one little ovary?

i went to the RE after two months of no AF and i have one small ovary which appeared to be doing nothing? the RN said it looked like it was suppressed? i am now to only take the prometrium days 14-28 200mg.

Any suggestions on how to wake up my one little ovary and get it working?

maura, maybe you were right about the prometrium?

thanks!

Hi there: I'll look to see if I can find out how to get an ovary working (did your RE have any thoughts?), but in the meantime, just wanted to say that I wouldn't take the prometrium on cds 14-28 without confirming that you've actually O'd by cd 14! Sometimes doctors prescribe meds according to a "textbook cd 14 O cycle, with 14 day LP" without ever making sure that that's the kind of cycle the woman has! In other words, if you are a cd 20 O-er, then taking prog. starting on cd 14 isn't the best idea! (because it might delay or prevent O altogether).

If I were you, I'd keep temping and once I'd confirmed O, then and only then would I start the progesterone.

Now, I'll look to see how to get an ovary "unsuppressed"! Back later++++++++++

Maura

thanks maura

lol-thanks maura for checking on unsuppressing the ovary. you made my smile and kind of laugh about it. let me know if you find anything good. i didn't see the RE just the RN. this is the first time they have really taken much interest in my ovary or ovaries (couldn't find a second one) and have actually explained what was going on.
i know i have had an ovarian cyst in the past, but that is it. there is not anything on it now. i guess that is good?

thanks julie

did things go back to normal when you stopped using the prometrium until after O? i am pretty perplexed by the whole thing. i am hoping that it is just the prometrium that put my ovary to sleep and it will wake back up especially since i think i had o'd before. i guess it is encouraging that it is there at all-now if we can just get it to work! there were no cysts on it, so i think that is a good thing right?

Prometrium will not make you ovulate Maybe im misunderstanding. Prometrium tricks the body into thinking it HAS ovulated, so it wont gear up to do that until there is a drop in levels of progesterone. The natural cycle is the first half your pituitary will secrete FSH (follicle stimulating hormone) to get your ovaries geared up, estrogen plays a huge role in this first half of the month to build up your lining for implantation amongst other things...once your egg is ready to be released the body switches from FSH to LH (Lutinizing Hormone) and pops the egg from the ovary...the corpus luteum will then start pumping out progesterone to maintain that lining and give the egg time to get to the uterus...

The signal to begin a new month is the death of the corpus luteum (and fall of progesterone)....same thing when you are pregnant...your ovaries are at rest...because the body has HIGH levels of progesterone floating around...no need to create more eggs...your body either ovulated...or you are pregnant...pregnant will keep levels from falling...or not..then AF comes...

Im confused as to why your dr would be surprised you are not having any eggs being matured...if you are on prometrium...it wont happen

And if you arent ovulating..prometrium wont do that either....it will however (usually) make you have a period. So at the end of the cycle of prometrium, af will come...

I hope you get things figured out with your doc...id be seriously frustrated..

thanks julie and another question?!

i am a little overwelmed with it all. thank you so much for the information. i would have liked to have been seen by the RE not the RN, but she does seem great and spends a lot of time talking to you. i just question if she knows everything. the RE has more of a tendency to dismiss things (like the chance that i could get pregnant on my own) where the RN does not. i wish i would have been a little more informed a long time ago

? how long does it take the ovaries, if there not showing anything, to start growing follicles or ovulate? is it a quick thing or does it take a while? i was at the dr. weds may 24 this weds. i took my temp this morning and it rised from 97.43 to 97.97 i think that is what it was. could i be ready to ovulate that quick? probably not right? if i was having a normal cycle i would be cycle day 14??? thanks
