Hello, I have a questionabout bcp (child/pg ment)
ttc 3 and coming off micronor, mini pill, mid cycle. It took me 6 months to get a normal cycle when coming off after 9 years of use to ttc 1st child (12 mo of fertility issues in total), and fell pg with 2nd, within 1 year of birth of 1st child so know that I would've been more fertile than 'normal'.
My question is does anyone have any experience of pg within a couple of months of stopping bcp or am I likely to have to try for as long as I did with 1st pg? Has anyone had issues ttc following subsequent pg? Also does anyone know if there is more of an issue if you enter your 30's, time is definitely ticking it feels! All responses most welcome x

hi fred....i can't answer your question about bcp's as i've never taken them.
however, i can tell you that having gotten pg before doesn't guarentee subsequent success again. after having no issues getting pg in my late 20's, we decided to wait a few years to TTC again. when we actually started TTC i was 35. we never thought there would be any issues as we never had trouble before. unfortunately we were dealing with "secondary infertility" which i had no idea even existed. i was totally ignorant to the concept and never even mentioned our difficulties to my doctor until 2 1/2 years had passed. at that point we started temping and my doc set us up with our first few tests for a fertility work up. as it had turned out, the issue was with me and in a nutshell it was a progesterone defficiency. i had learned that unlike many other bodily changes which occur over time, progesterone levels fall off sharply at age 35. it's a problem however that's fairly easily recitifed. by the time we got pg we had been trying for over 3 years. i'd say not addressing the issue sooner is easily one of my biggest regrets. my best advice for anyone wishing to get pg is to make an appt and ask your doc to run basic preliminary tests. even just some simple bloodwork can offer useful info. i felt i wasted a lot of valuable time. your "30's" is a great time to have children, but it's definitely not the time to take a "wait and see" approach. best wishes!!

fred,
I totally agree with Dina, don't wait too long to get into the dr and get checked out to make sure there isn't something going on that needs to be addressed. I have a very similar situation to yours. It took us almost 2 yrs to get pg with our first, we got pg right away with our 2nd (1 wk shy of exactly 17 mos apart) went on bc (although I chose depo, that's a whole nother story) as we weren't sure if we were going to have more kids or not. After 3 years on the depo, we decided we did want another baby, it's now been just over 2 years of ttc #3. I'll be 31 this year (ugh) and I had really hoped to be done by now. We are going through the motions of trying to find out what's going on and just keeping our fingers crossed. After getting pg with #2 so quickly, I never thought we'd be right back in this crazy ride again, but here we are. I certainly hope you don't have to go through it again, keeping my fingers crossed for you that it'll happen quickly for you. Just wanted to let you know that there's someone here that knows what it's like. |

Hi fred: As the others have said, there's no way to predict how long it's going to take when ttc... whether it's your first, second or tenth! Each ttc is different and each pg is different. I hope that this time around is quick for you
.As for ttc in your 30's, I think 35 is one of the age milestones where fertility is said to decline (40 is another), so if you are just entering the 30's you should be fine . I started ttc when I was 33 and got pg two times right away (one a m/c and one a molar)... then after a "dry spell" I got pg when I was 34 (another m/c) ... then after an RE diagnosed and corrected a uterine septum, I conceived my ds and dd when I was 35 and 37 with no trouble at all (within 3 months of ttc each one) .Good luck and let us know how things go! ++++++++++++++++ Maura |

BC-DKNY I am mostly a lurker just hoping to find something encouraging to my situation. I feel as though my time to conceive is growing short and I am so up and down emotionally. I am in my 2ww and I know that I'm not preg b/c I have gotten so many bfn's before that I couldn't possibly have a bfp this time. I did find hope in your posting about your story. I hope I am wrong and will have a bfp next Fri. It would be a great anniversary present for my DH.

Maura
We have been ttc for 7 months. We don't have a DX yet but I go to see my OB on the 21st. My DH does not have Varicoceles and he must have some guys b/c we have a 21 month old conceived naturally and easily. I have O'd the last 3 out of 4 cycles for sure. This last month I'm not sure. I had all the signs but no +opk test. I've been using a natural progesterone cream that my sis used to conceive her 21 month old and 4 month old after 2 yrs ttc and 2 m/c. My sis told me I was using it to suppress my cycle the 1st 3 months we were ttc so I most likely wasn't Oing but I don't know that for sure. Hopefully my OB can confirm. That would explain no BFP the 1st 3 mos. Thank you for your good wishes. |

molly....i think talking your OB now would be a great idea.
i used progest cream for a few months, but aside from truly improving my PMS symptoms, it wasn't strong enough to correct my deficiency. progest in any form can prevent you from O'ing if not taken on the appropriate cd's. any progest needed should be started after O has been confirmed. if taken too soon, it will interupt the O process. my OB said anywhere 2-4 dpo is an ideal time to start it. let us know if there's anything we can help you with!!

Thanks DKNY! I was taking the Progesterone cream from cd5 to cd 28 the 1st 3 months. Then one night I was reading in a book that showed a chart of the levels of estrogen & progesterone during a cycle & like a lightbulb it dawned on me. So I asked my sister and that is what she told me so now I take it from after O to cd28. It took a few months of using it correctly to get me back to normal but last month I had a 28 day cycle for the 1st time since I got preg w/my daughter. I still had ov cramps even when I was using it wrong so that is the only thing that makes me question whether I could have still been Oing.
Was your def just in Progesterone? How did they Dx it? How long did it take after it was corrected? |
