Question Question about falling BBT during PG

I have continued taking my BBT since my BFP. It has kind of been a reassurance to me that I am still PG. It has stayed relatively constant/high. This morning it fell 0.5 degrees, which seems like a lot to me. It is still above my coverline.

A BBT that falls below the coverline can mean an impending m/c so I'm kinda worried. I called the clinic and in the message she left she told me to stop taking my temp. because several factors can cause it to fluctuate (though she didn't tell me what could). Then she says "whatever happens is gonna happen. There's nothing you can do to prevent it or cause it."

Help! Has anyone experienced this and what was the outcome? Do you think I am worrying about nothing?
Thanks!

PS. I don't have any m/c signs (no cramping or bleeding). I am 5 weeks along.

I have not experienced it but a friend of mine did and everything was fine. In fact her dr told her to stop taking her temp right after she found out she was pg because there is a competing hormone that causes your temp to fluctuate. I hope this helps you. My fingers are crossed that all goes well. I am a little surprised your dr was not more supportive. Good luck to you!

My temps have typically been 98.0-98.2. Yesterday it was 98.1. It fell to 97.6 this morning. It did drop to 97.9 for 2 days last week and went back up. Thanks!

I bet all is fine but I know that I'd be asking the same question if I was in your shoes. I've heard the same thing that awbaby said about the competing hormone thing so maybe you shouldn't temp. I hope all goes well and I agree w/awbaby again-your dr's office sounded like they were kinda rude!! Good luck!!!

Stop temping! Your doctor's office is right, you are worrying yourself for nothing and there's nothing you would be able to do anyway.

Remember, when you worry and stress, so does baby and right now, baby needs calm and relaxation. Its doing a lot of critical growing in there and doesn't have time to deal with mom's stress hormones!

Now, its time to throw away the thermometer and go pamper yourself. Everything will be just fine!

PS. No one told me that I shouldn't take BBT.

Oh, I'm so glad that you're stowing away the thermometer! When I was newly pg with ds, I kept taking my temp because I had been doing it for 3 years at that point AND because I wanted to make sure that the pg was ok (I'd had 3 losses). One day my temp fell and I FREAKED! I did all kinds of research and learned that the hormones at play in pg make your temp go up and down (estrogen makes it go down and prog. makes it go up -- those are two competing hormones). I looked for pg charts and couldn't find any past a certain point ... BECAUSE there is no paradigm for pg past a certain point and also because people stop temping (some because there's no need and some because of loving peer pressure to stop like you've just gotten).

So anyway, I stopped temping after that scare and went on to have a healthy baby boy, despite that scary temp drop!

Best and keep us posted++++++++++++
