OPKs-how often do you test?

How soon before O do you start using OPKs and how many times a day do you test? I've never used them before and I'm trying to get a handle on my cycle before we TTC #2. Thanks.

I know my body so I don't start until cd12 but I think a good rule of thumb is start on cd10. You only need to test once a day but make sure it is between 10:30am and 6:30pm. Don't use your first morning pee. Also pee in a cup and let it sit for 1/2 an hour so it is room temp then test. Good luck to you.

Hi, when you start testing depends on the length of your cycle --- or if not regular then the average length between your shortest and longest cycle. All the opks will have a chart in the boxes. For instance if your cycle is usually 28/30 days most of the brands will recommend starting on cd10. As for the # of times per day --- I don't know if there are hard and fast rules. I am an obsessive type so I have been doing it twice a day. Once at 2 pm and again at 10 pm to make sure I don't miss the surge. It may also help to be aware of your physical symptoms of ovualtion for you as well. Most kits have 7 sticks in them --- occasionally I have had to go on to box #2 with a late ovulation. By the way, you don't need fmu either. Best of luck to you,
Pecan

Thanks. I have been noticing EWCM around cd 14-16 each month so I'm guessing I'm O around that time. I started testing last night (cd10) and will continue to test until I get a +++. I have a short luteal phase though b/c I'm still bf my son at night. Do you know if progesterone cream will lengthen it?
