My doctor just told me that i am not ovulating. She put me on 50mg of clomid, without doing any tests except a blood test. i do not think i ovulated and i am really crampy at day 21. What happens next?

It works with some, others it doesnt. Unfortunately you have to give it a try to see if it does. I do not ovulate on 50mgs, nor 100mgs. It takes 150mg to make me ovulate so dont give up hope if you dont ovulate on the lower dosages. I ovulate late on clomid usually, so around cd18 - cd21 ovulation isnt uncommon. Do you OPK or BBT? This might give you a better indication if you ovulate or not.

Hi there: Yes, Clomid does work for many women. What makes you think you didn't O this month? Did you use OPKs or are you charting?

I'm wondering if you are ovulating now or just ovulated recently. Many women on Clomid O around cd 20 or later ...

What kind of monitoring is your doctor doing ... did she tell you to try it for a couple of months and then come back if you don't get pg? Or is she following you through the cycle?

I'll check back++++++++++++++++

Thank you so much for your responses. I used the opk, and it showed up positive on day 11, but I had no signs of ovulation, so i assumed it was a false positive. Do false positives occus a lot with clomid? maybe i did ovulate and didn't have any cervical mucus? My doctor hasn't told me much about what to do or why I am not ovluating. I am 28 and never had period problems before.

Hi again: Clomid does tend to dry up cm so if that's what you were going by to determine O, you might well have O'd and just not known it. On the other hand, you may not have O'd yet. What cd are you on now?

As for the OPK, Clomid *can* cause a false positive if taken too soon after the last Clomid pill. I forget what the timing is on that, but I'll get back to you. Since Clomid often causes women to O later, I wouldn't necessarily go by that cd 11 OPK. If you are still relatively early in your cycle, you may still be going to O this month! Many women on Clomid O around cd 20 or even later.

If I were you, I'd keep BMSing regularly for the rest of the month in case you haven't O'd yet. And I might, depending on what cd you are on now, ask for a prog. test to see if you DID O already.

Good luck and keep us posted+++++++++++++

Here's that info on Clomid and OPKs... What cd did you take the Clomid?

Q: Does Clomid cause problems with OPKs?

A: Clomid (Serophene/clomiphene citrate) can cause a false positive in OPKs if taken too soon after finishing the prescription. According to most of the manufacturers you should wait at least 3 days before using an OPK. If you take Clomid days 3-7 you can begin testing on day 10. If you take it 5-9, you should wait until day 12.

Maura,
Thanks so much! I am on the day 5-9 plan, so on day 11, it may very well have been a false positive. Can you still get pregnant if your cervical mucus dries up?

Hi again: You can get pg with less than perfect cm, but the more fertile your cm (abundant, slippery, stretchy), the better your chances. Some women on Clomid use a product called PreSeed, http://preseed.com/, and there are other home remedies as well (certain vitamins, Evening Primrose Oil). Ask your doctor about this and also post on the alternative tx bb.

What cd are you on now? Perhaps you haven't seen the cm yet because you haven't O'd yet?

Best of luck and keep us posted+++++++++

Are you seeing an obgyn or a RE? I hope more tests are taken before youstart any major treatment. I have heard clomid works.

Best of luck. Hope all works out for you.
