Answer brand OPKs?
Just bought one to try this month. I usually use the Clear Plan Easy. The answer brand came with 20 test 'strips' not the hpt kind. I took one tonight and it came back negative, which is fine not worried about it yet. Just wondering if anyone else uses answer? They seem kinda cheaply made if you know what i mean and from the instructions kinda touchy when performing the test?
Any feedback on these?

I used to use Answer brand OPKs and refuse to buy them anymore!!! Dr had said just to buy the cheapest brand of OPKs (which they were). However, turns out some months I would get partial color on the Answer OPK stick for days and no clear + (could've just been my body too, I guess) whereas I don't get that from the Clearblue Easy OPK. I was reading online about OPKs and it said if you get significant color on one brand to switch brands, so I did. One month I even used both brands and the line started turning sooner with the Answer brand, even though my follies weren't ready yet. Maybe it's more sensitive, but I am trusting the more expensive test / one that's often recommended by REs. Good Luck!

I used a clear blue test and an answer on the same day and the clear blue was + and the answer - . I was also at the RE the same day and had a u/s which showed a very mature follicle so i would have to say the answer does not appear to be very trustworthy!!So now I am stuck with 19 of them...guess we get what we pay for...I learned my lesson

I use the answer and LOVE them...lots of test strips to feed my POAS obsession!
AND I am an RN as well and can tell you that most of the stick tests...glucose, hpt, etc that Dr offices use are made just like this test. Its not the stick itself, its the paper inside them treated with chemicals to react to make a line when the presence of LH(opks) or HCG(hpts) are present. In the more expensive ones, you're often paying for the plastic and the manufacturing. That said, women often have different hormone levels/rate of rise esp with LH; and there may be one test treated differently that reacts better with the way a particular persons hormones are/rise. Just my humble opinion, take it as you wish!

I'm using Answer OPK sticks right now and have had the weirdest experience. Based on a very clear temp drop and rise, I was certain that I ovulated yesterday. The day before, the stick had a pale test line, and on day of O itself, well, sadly I forgot to take the **** test. Anyway, today I take the Answer test and the test line is really dark, which would indicate that I'm soon to O.
Has anyone else seen a discrepancy like this? Now I don't know which method -- BBT or OPKs -- to trust. And my husband has a low sperm count; it's important for us to know exactly when ole' Humpty Dumpty is coming down that tube because we don't have any fishies to spare. Kris |

Hi Kris: Can you share your chart? I'd love to see your temps if possible.
In the meantime, you know, it's possible that you both surged and ovulated yesterday. It's happened to me before. This would explain why your OPK was negative the day before yesterday and why your temp rose today. As for your ++OPK today, some women get more than one day of ++ so you could be looking at the tail end of your surge. That said, it's possible your temp rise was a fluke and that your OPK is right today and you haven't O'd yet. I guess I would assume for now that it's a true ++ and I would plan for BMS as if O was coming consistent with the OPK today. And then I would watch your temps very carefully to see if they continue to stay up. Good luck and keep us posted+++++++++++++ Maura |

Hi Maura,
Sure, I'd love for someone to take a look at my temps. I'm really starting to doubt my own ability to interpret them. I have very regular triphasic cycles, with two consecutive, quick spikes and dips in the middle of each. My chart: CD 1 - 97.7 CD 2 - ?? CD 3 - 97.9 CD 4 - 97.5 CD 5 - 97.7 CD 6 - 97.5 CD 7 - ?? CD 8 - 97.4 CD 9 - 97.3 CD 10 - 97.3 CD 11 - 97.4 CD 12 - 97.5 CD 13 - 97.2 CD 14 - 97.7, with test line not quite as dark as reference line on OPK CD 15 - 97.1, forgot to do OPK CD 16 - 97.5, with test line darker than reference line on OPK Thanks, we will keep BDing (or whatever the acronym for getting busy is on this board) just in case. Happy Hearts Day! Kris |
