?? On timing & OPK's

Hi,

I have a question with timing of IUI's and OPK's. I have been using an OPK since CD 11. The month prior I had +OPK on cycle day 14 - well this month by CD 16 after no positive I wasn't holding out much hope. Called the nurse and she said to keep doing the OPK until CD 19. I've had no CM and on the off chance I took an OPK today at 11:00 (CD 18) and it's positive. Here 's my question - I totally forgot to take an OPK yesterday - but again I've had no CM and I don't normally O this late in the cycle. We were not feeling well (cold etc.) and had some stress last week - which I guess could explain the delay in O. But now I'm wondering if I should skip the IUI this month because I didn't do an OPK yesterday? They can fit me in for the IUI tomorrow at 11:00. Also my cycle is ALWAYS 27-29 days, so wouldn't that make for a very short luteal phase as well? Would that be bad in and of itself?

Lily.

ps - I don't temp because I work PT midnights.

lily....have you done an OPK at all today? ideally the best time to OPK is in the afternoon, but due to the fact that you forgot it yesterday, i'd probably take one now, and if it's neg i'd take another one in the afternoon. then i would go forward (starting tomorrow) with the afternoin tests.

it's highly unlikely that you missed a pos OPK from yesterday and your test would be neg today. if you did get a surge yesterday, you'd more than likely still pick up a pos this morning. if that were the case, i'd see if there's anyway you could get in today (assuming that you could make those preperations on such short notice.)

if you were to get a pos today, and get AF on cd 28-29, that would make your LP questionable as far as it's length. but don't put the cart before the horse. take it one step at the time. maybe you'll get your IUI and not get AF

Dina,

Yep I got a + OPK this morning @ 11:00 (I hadn't urinated for 4hrs prior). Last month my first positive was @ 10:30 in the morning and I was checking them twice a day @ 10:30 & 2:30. I haven't spoken with the nurse yet today - it was tricky to fit me in tomorrow, so I'm not sure if they'll be able to get me in today.

With the cost of it all I'm just wondering if I should skip this cycle and wait until next month?!?

Lily

oh lily, that's a tuff call honey. for all practical purposes, you may've started your surge yesterday. if that's the case, it's indicative of an impending O within 12-36 hours. once the egg is released, it has a "shelf" life of an additional 12-24 hours. so there's obviously a best and worse case scenario.

i'm honestly not sure what i would do. but i think if you can get in there today, i'd probably go for it. if you can't get in until tomorrow, i would see if you can speak with your doc about your success "odds" for this month, given the circumstances. if you're paying for this out of pocket, that would give me an additional reason to consider the odds.

i know that's not really a whole lot of help, but just trying to give you all the variables. let us know what you decide. best wishes......
