Opk question

Hi,
I am a little confused. I know you're not supposed to test with opks after you get a + but I decided to anyway. Now I have had 3 positive days in a row. Is this normal or am I doing something wrong? The test line is darker than the reference line on all three. Thanks.

I am not sure but maybe your lh surge is showing up really strong in your urin for some reason. like you I test after i get a positive. I ushually get a light line then a positive then another light line. hope that makes sense. i hope one of these experts has a better answer for you. good luck on your cycle++++++++++++++++++

Hi Maria,

OPKs are often inaccurate in women with PCOS.

OPKs detect LH levels in the urine. Normally, women have a low level of LH during the follicular phase. Just before ovulation, the LH surges to upwards of 3x the normal level. This initiates the final stages of maturation of the egg, followed by its release approx. 36 hours after the surge. After the surge, LH falls back to baseline level.

Women with PCOS often have elevated LH levels, and levels that upredictably fluctuate around O, making OPKs inaccurate. They will detect elevated LH, but in women who already have elevated LH or crazy LH patterns, it is unknown if the + OPK is infact the pre-ovulatory surge.

Hope that makes sense.

Hi Maria: I think it's normal to get more than one day of ++OPK (lots of women get 2 days), but I don't know where the cut-off is. As Wantsababy2 pointed out, women with PCOS will often get days and days of ++OPKs because of their elevated LH levels. Is PCOS an issue with you? Can you confirm that you actually are Oing after these ++OPKs? If so, then I wouldn't worry about having more than one day.

Good luck and keep us posted+++++++++++++++
Maura

Thanks for your responses. Yes, I do have PCOS but I have never had this happen before. I tested yesterday afternoon (it was + yesterday morn) and it was neg. So I tested again this morning and it was +. Is there something about testing in the morning that makes it + when it really isn't? I'm so confused. I am not bbt'ing but wish I was. I am up too much all through the night with ds so it wouldn't be very accurate. Anyway, thanks again for any input. P.S. Sorry about the old profile. I tried to update it once but for some reason it didn't work.
