Temp question
I was wondering, if I am understanding correctly you temp dips down then spikes up indicating that you O during that time. If you see your temp dip how can that be hindsight as to when you are Oing?
Like if I get up take a temp that is a little lower than normal , shouldn't that me a sign that I need to bms Sheila CD4

Hi Sheila: Not every woman has a dip at ovulation (I don't, for example) and even women that usually do, don't always ... AND many women dip and DON'T ovulate at that time (like me!) ... so any dip can't be considered an ovulatory dip until you see what the temps do after the dip ... do they rise and stay up? Do they stay down? And so on..... that's why temping only works in hindsight because you don't know what things mean until after the fact!
That said, it can't hurt to BMS when you get a noticeable dip just in case it IS an ovulatory dip !Good luck and keep in touch+++++++++++ Maura Last edited by BC-Maura; 11-05-2005 at 07:44 PM. |

i agree with maura 100%...
i would also like to add that i (personally) always got my monthly low temp on O day. generally my pre O temps ran around low to mid 97's. i would usually hit a 96.8 or 96.9 on O day AND keep in mind that if you're OPK'ing, you probably would've already picked up your surge. i would also get O pains. so with all of those things combined, i was pretty certain of exactly when i was O'ing. for my the rise in temps in the days to follow was just a little icing on the cake. so although temping alone is a hindsight sort of science...some ppl will start to recongnize the pattern after a few months of temping....assuming they have a regular cycle and have other methods of verification....kwim? maura i hope tyou don't think i'm contradicitng you in anyway. i just wanted to tell shelia about my own expereince because it happened to pertain to what she was asking. but shelia...please do keep in mind that my situation was the exception. more often than not, women have minimal signs when O'ing, so i would never trust that low temp alone. but as maura said, it could never hurt to start your BMS'ing when you see that *dip.* good luck!
