When am I actually late??

My longest cycle is 58 days ( 6 month charting) my shortest is 41 my average is 41. I am on CD 47.

Once I start can "we" figure our when I o'd by when I started, ya would think I never had a child before, I just never watched it so closely and I can see why

Hi Sheila: Let's hope you DON'T start, but yes, if you do get AF this month, we'll have a rough idea of when you O'd (assuming you have a normal LP) ... as for when you are late, without knowing when you O'd, it's impossible to say for sure when you are late!

I'd go by your average, though (did you mean to say that your average and your shortest are both 41 days?) and then test according to that. But if you get a negative, know that it could still be too early to tell!

oops sorry my shortest days are 41, my average is 49 and my longest is 58. So are you saying If I dont' start by CD 52 I should be able to test and get an accurate result? How do I know if I have a "normal: LP, nothing seems normal to me, lol

Again I am feeling somewhat crampy even today and have been using the potty alot which is normally what happens right before Istart, its like all the water is coming out!

Hi Sheila: Unfortunately, without knowing when you O'd this month, there's no date you could pick where you could test and know that you'd get an accurate result .... you could be having another 58 day month, for example, and so if you were to test on cd 52, that would be "early" testing.

What I meant was just that you could work under the assumption that your cycle was going to be of average length and go from there. For example, you could wait until you are cd 50 (since your average is 49 days) and then try testing, knowing that it could still be too early. Or if you wanted to better your chances of an accurate result, you could wait until cd 59 before testing.

Unfortunately, for those of us whose cycles are long and irregular, there is no way of knowing when we are late until we have hit a new record for length between cycles. I've never used HPTs for the simple reason that I would never know when to test.

BBT charting has helped me immensely by showing me when I ovulated during the cycle, so I know when to expect AF. The follicular phase (the early, egg-development part of your cycle) is variable. The luteal phase (after O) is fixed, and its length is independent of the length of the follicular phase. My luteal phase, as determined by over 1 year of BBT charting, is 17 days, no matter how long the total length of my cycle is. Therefore, by charting, I know that I should expect to see AF on the 18th day after O, which is also when I can test if AF does not show up (I usually get a beta done as opposed to HPTs).

Sheila: I don't have ANY patience, actually! When I was ttc, I was a maniac... I totally understand how you feel (and we all do).... it's so much harder when your cycles are long because there's that much more waiting!
