Failed IVF

We have failed two IVF cycles and have been suggested that maybe her egg quality may not be the best. Should we proceed with a third IVF cycles or go on to donor eggs. Are there other tests that may check on egg quality. She has had two children before with a different marriage.

Hi: I'm so sorry to hear about the failed IVF's. I don't know anything really about how to test for egg quality, but I would think that if your IVF clinic were reputable, they would be able to determine whether the egg quality is good. I do know that egg quality declines with age. How old are her children and how old is she now?

If you don't get any help here, you might want to try the IVF and egg donor bbs (if you haven't already).

I wish you all the best++++++++++++

HI, I agree with Maura. Age does play a factor with egg quality and her IVF Clinic should be able to determine egg quality.

Wishing you all the best. Take care.

i think a cd 3 FSH test is an indicator of egg quality as well as reserve.

Has she had her fsh level checked? If it is definitely high and you have had two failures, it may be time to move to donor(unless your insurance pays for a third IVF in full) good luck.

i found this regarding to FSH. the link is enclosed if you'd like to read about it further.

By measuring a baseline FSH on day 3 of the cycle (we do it on either day 2, 3, or 4), we can often get an indication that the women is closer to menopause and has relatively less "ovarian reserve". Another way of saying this is that if the baseline FSH is elevated the ovarian reserve (how many eggs are left) is reduced and sometimes also the egg quality is reduced. In other words, an elevated FSH represents a reduced egg supply (in numbers of eggs remaining) and it might also reflect a compromise of egg quality. However, in general, the best quick and easy "test" for egg quality is looking at the woman's drivers license - her age.
