Temping
Hi ladies,
I have been using the OPK's but never tempted. I was just wondering how I know about the temperatures. Will it be the same temp pretty much all the way thru until I O then it will be high? Sorry I am just confused and I want to make sure that I do it right. Thanks for the help.

Hi! Everyone will have a different looking chart. From what I am learning, with AF your temp drops and then after O it will rise and you will have higher temps until AF then you will have another drop. Feel free to look at mine... just click the link under my name... I update everyfew days just so those that are board have something to look at....hehehe... or if I have a question it is there.
You do want to make sure that you take the temp first thing before you do ANYTHING and at the same time ( or so) I usually write the time down if it is not in my normal time frame, so if something looks off, I know what happened that day. There are different programs you can use or charts that you can find on-line. I have a link to one if you need it. It is late and I wanted to reply... so please ask any questions and I or someone will be happy to help you out! Maura and Dina are great and there are alot of nice pple around!! Good luck and best wishes!! Kat |

Hi: As Kay said, ovulation is the point after which temps rise up. As for what the temps will look like, there's a lot of variation. Many women have pre-O temps in the low to mid 97's and then after O, have temps in the high 97's to 98's. What you're looking for in particular with O is a temp rise that is at least .2 degree higher than the previous 6 temps. And then temps should stay up in that higher range from that point until AF or close to AF (if you're not pg).
An example: cd 9 97.3 cd 10 97.1 cd 11 97.5 cd 12 97.4 cd 13 97.2 cd 14 97.3 cd 15 97.9 In that case, O would be on cd 14 and your coverline (the line below which temps ideally shouldn't fall during your 2ww) would be 97.6 (you draw your coverline .1 degree higher than the highest of your preceding 6 temps, i.e., cd 11). Good luck and let us know if we can help you more with temping !++++++++++++++ Maura |

I have a question along these lines. I have never temped before and am confused. What is the difference between a basal body thermometer and a regular thermometer? Do they sell the BB ones at regular drug stores? Can I use a digital or does it have to be the mercury kind? Are the temps used only to indicate O or is there some significance if they stay high after O? Any info. is much appreciated! Thanks!

As for the temps themselves, whether there's a pg or not, temps should stay above your coverline for the 2ww... if they don't, there might be a problem with progesterone (or in some cases, temps that fall down might show that O didn't happen at all) ... temps are great for showing O and for showing how long your luteal phase is ... When it comes to telling pg, if you have 18 or more high temps following O, then you can assume a pg (but you have to be sure about O so that you count the 18 dpo right).Good luck and keep us posted+++++++++++ Maura |

Sorry, I didn't include that. The box says..... Basal Digital Thermometer. It is in a blue box and says on the front that it is for predicting ovulation. The thermometer is purple. It is back where the pregnancy test and OPK's are. Hope this helps.
