another question for the experts...
Hi again Dina and Maura
![]() I'm sorry to say that AF showed up meaning my IUI didn't work this time around. I am trying to stay positive for this next cycle but I have a question. AF showed up at 12dpiui. I am (well, was) taking progesterone. When I went in for my cd3 u/s (yesterday) and filled out my call back sheet I also put down a question for my doctor about this. It seems like that is a bit early and I wondered if I needed more progesterone next time around or if it was possible that I ovulated on my own prior to the trigger (when I went in for my u/s and b/w the day before trigger and asked about my estradiol I was told that it had gone down which the nurse said was "puzzling"). When the nurse called me yesterday with my orders she did not give me any feedback from the doctor so I asked her "what about my question?" and she said that 12dpiui was not early for AF. If it had been 8 or 9 days then it would be reviewed. She said 12 days wasn't bad for an LP and that the IF drugs changed things a bit. Hmmm, this goes against everything I thought I knew. Can you shed some light here? I will ask the doctor myself at my next consult, but, if I should be taking more progesterone then it's important (I actually have plenty so considered upping my dosage without their consent). What do you girls think? TIA! Lisa

Hi Lisa: I'm sorry your IUI didn't work out
. {{{HUGS}}}You are right to question this past cycle. While a LP of 12 days is normal, if you got AF at 12 dpIUI, then your LP was actually 11 days (because you don't count the day you O or the day you get AF when determining LP). And usually prog. supps will extent a LP a little bit, so the fact that you possibly had an 11 day LP while on prog. supps needs exploring. It's quite possible that you DID O earlier than your IUI, since your estradiol had already gone down. What did the u/s show at that time? If you DID have a true 11 day LP, then I think it's important to try to extend it with higher prog. supps. Since implantation takes place between 6-12 dpo, anything shorter than 12 days for a LP doesn't give you your best chance for success. I would definitely talk with your doctor about all of this. You want to be sure that 1) you time the IUI as best as you can and 2) you take the right level of prog. for you. Will you be talking to him before your next IUI? I hope you get some answers. Please keep in touch and good luck++++++++ Maura |

lisa...i agree with everything maura said. it's definitely something to keep your eye on.
i inclined to think your thought might be right (about possibly O'ing earlier than you thought) due to the estradiol falling off (which is what happens after O, when progest starts to increase. i know many women don't actually OPK or temp if they trigger, but maybe it would be a good idea for you to try and track O this cycle, in the event you have a similar occurrence, you would be able to see for sure whether you're O'ing earlier, or dealing with a possible LP that's borderline. whew...that was quite a run on sentence...sorry. my HS english teacher would be proud...LOL

Thank you all
![]() I have an appt. with my doctor on 9/2 which should be just after my IUI. He did give me his email address though and I have used it in the past so I am thinking I'll just drop him a quick note. I am guessing my question never made it to him and I don't really know the (nurse, I presume?) who called me back so am hesitant to take her word (over yours - hee hee). Dina - as someone who is obsessive I don't know why I didn't think of doing my own monitoring. Hmmm. I think I might just bbt and/or opk. AF is still here and it's only cd5 so it's not too late for temping, right? I may still catch a pattern? |

Sounds good, Lisa
. And yes, I would take Dina's suggestion and add bbt to the mix (and probably also OPK)... the more information the better! And it's not too late to start. Some women don't start temping until AF is done as a matter of course.Good luck and keep us posted++++++++++++++ Maura |

Hi Lisa, Sometimes I did not chart until AF was over ( to give me a break!!) I reccomend putting the thermometer next to a clock, with a paper and a pen. JUst incase you may not remember what time it was when you took your temp!! This helps me when I switch form night to morning work!! I try to always take mine between 6:15 and 7:15 am... sometimes it may very... so I have the times down if my temps look too good to be true or crazy, I have the time to compare it too!!
Best Wishes and Good Luck!! Kat |
