Out on a limb here... temps and Progest.

Hello ladies...

I had a MC in May... D & C at the beginning of June. My progesterone was 10 at the time of pregnancy. Nurses told me that it was normal however, some of the ladies on this site said it was low.

Now.. that I am temping, all my temps are low! 96.9 is the lowest but the highest thus far is 97.4. I am on CD 24 today......

My question is.... true, I may have not yet. However, in some reading I found out that temps can be low due to low progesterone. - even after Ovulation and Pregnancy. What do you think of that scenario? Could it be the reason that I did not hold that pregnancy?

TNgurl......i hesitate to comment b/c i'm not a doctor, and there could be a host of reasons why a pg doesn't continue.

i think there seems to be a wide range of acceptable proogesterone (for pg) that vary from doctor to doctor. you will find that some doctors find a level of 10 acceptable, some want 15, and yet some want 20.

i was dealing with low progesterone and in comparison to most others temps, i think it showed in my temps. it was eventually confirmed thru and endo biopsy, but i had my suspicions based on my temps and additional symptoms. my doc gave me a script of progest that i has to start between 2-4 dpo. she never tested my progest (via b/w) when i became pg, because a) progest suppositories don't cross the bloodstream and wouldn't have reflected, and b) because i was taking supp's so ther was no need to worry about the levels.

if the body doesn't produce enough progesterone to support the pg, it will result in pg loss. if you feel uncomfortable about your doctors practices regarding progesterone levels, then perhaps you should talk to him/her. if you're still not comfortable, then you should consider moving on to another doc.

i'm a real advocate for taking control of your own course of treatment (to a point of course.) it's important to me that my doctor respect and address my concerns, and not just try to pacify me with his/her "opinions." seeing as tho we have seen such a wide range where acceptable progesterone is concerned, you have every right to question this and express your concerns to your doc. especially since your doc is one of the ones that feels comfotable with the lowest level.

if i had to be totally upfront, i will tell you that i wouldn't be comfortable with a progest level of 10. but that's just me.....

Hi Amy: Low temps post-O can definitely be a sign of low progesterone, but even with low temps/low prog. you should still be able to see an ovulatory rise, even if the temps then stay right above your coverline. As for prog. in pg, some doctors (including mine) believe 10 is a fine number, while others (like my OB's partners) like to see 15 or even 20. It's just a matter of opinion. I personally would be more comfortable with a higher number, esp. where you've had a prior loss whose cause is unknown.

What were your preceding 6 temps before this 97.4? I think it's in your prior post, so I may be able to pull them from there.

Good luck and keep us posted++++++++
