BBT Question

Hey,

I have a question about taking temps. I have not done this in the past and always relied on OPK's but I want to start charting my temps. I heard that you are supposed to take your temp right when you first wake up in the morning. Well, my problem is that I wake up about every hour and a half to use the bathroom from about 2:00 in the morning until I get up for good at 7:00 am. When on earth should I take my temp? The first time that I get up to use the bathroom or when I get up for good at 7:00 am? Any imput would help as this is all so confusing to me right now.

Christi

hi christi...that's a tough one. ideally you're suppose to have at least 3 hours of consecutive sleep before you temp. i think 2 am wouldn't really be the best time to temp. what you could do on a trial an error period is do both for a while and see how it works out. just to get an idea of whether or not temping at 2 am will provide the same pattern as temping at 7.

if you're truly regular with getting up at the same times each night, it may work out at 7 because you're doing the same exact thing each night and everything's relative, KWIM?

i think if you do it for a cycle, you'll at least figure out if it's giving you the info you're striving for. the temps in themselves may not be precisely what they'd be, had you been sleeping for a solid 3 hours, but the overall pattern may work for you.

Dina,

Thank you for that information. It really makes sense when you put it like that. The times that I wake up at night seem to be like clockwork. I can not remember a night where I didn't wake up at those intervals. I will try what you said and see what happens. Again, thank you for your response!!
