some bad news

Dear All,

Just got the third SA back and they are so low still (5.8million). Our gynae just fit us in to see us today, he is as devastated as we are. Basically the HCG my DH was having had the reverse effect....the way DR explained it was that the first SA of 23.3 million sperm was basically the highest my DH could produce so the HCG could do nothing more. When this is the case the count fluctuates going from highest to lowest. He also believes that the hernia he had 1 1/2 yrs ago could have affected, so he is not too happy about this coming op.He has spoken to the surgeon to remind him not to mess around with his vas defrens. He is opting for ICSI in Oct or Noc ( as in my country it is so hot before that that apparently this effects the embies and do not have a high success rate during hot temps). He also wants to see what my DH count is like 6 weeks after the op as if it reverts to the 23.3 million he will try superovulation first and will give my DH Tamoxifen.

As to me he want me to stop my clomid as he wants to see how i do without medication since according to him i seem to have been having nice cycles on Clomid. Anyway for the next two months my DH will be out of action anyway. what was so nice of him was that he was really emphatic and before i left he tapped my hand kind of saying 'don't give up'. When i told him i was in the 2ww but had no hopes he told me not to stop hoping anything could happen. If i ever doubted my DR today all those doubts went so this is the only positive thing.

After the appt, i just went to my parent's house and cried and cried...my dear neice asked my DH if she could hug me and came running to give me a hug!My parents and sister were supportive and said that they would also help us financially in the treatment.it was just so horrible feeling that i may be the only one not to give them a grandchild

I hope the rest of you are having better days...you are in my thoughts and prayers....

Oh Ziz,

I am sorry to hear about your bad news. Many of us know too well the idea of not being able to give our parents grandchildren. It can be such a tough guilt to deal with. But I am sure that your folk's first concern is your happiness. At least you now have a plan. Your doctor was right to tell you not to give up hope. Never give up your hope. In the mean time, take care of yourself.

Coo

Just wanted to say my dh's counts are similiar to yours. His first SA he had 25mil. His second SA he had 19mil prewash and 13mil post wash. When we went for IUI on Sunday he had 29mil prewash and 4mil post wash. For some reason it seems like it is really varying. I don't understand it. But I did read somewhere that to have a successful IUI (I don't know if you plan on doing that) you need 1mil but of course your chances are higher with more. I am hoping it worked but if it didn't I am hoping his count will be higher next time. It is really weird. Oh, and the nurse did say it was low but since I had gotten pg before she wouldn't worry about it. He only had 4mil but they were good ones and it only takes one... that is what I keep telling myself. Good Luck!

My respect for my doc went up considerably when we saw I was having a mc on the u/s and she told me she'd had one too and knew how I felt-I could see she was hurting for me then she gave me & dh both great big hugs. Don't give up hope sweetie and take care of yourself & dh. Please keep us posted!!

Hi there,

Thanks for your thoughts...

Jules, Congrats on your prog results..they're great!!!!!!
Coo - hope all is ok with you
Honey 2 a Hero :My Dh is having 2 surgeries - epigastirc herina and inguinal hernia. It is the inguina; which could cause probs. If your DH is having an inguinal, make sure you le the surgeon know that you are undergoing fertility treatment and tell him not to mess around down there too much. My gynae spoke to my surgeon and he told him to leave a good layer of fat ..apparently surgeons have a tendency of removing the fat so that the end product is better aesthetically but who cares about that at this point. My doc also told me that because of surgery there will be inflammation and pressure on the vital repro system like the vas defrens so sprem count will be effected. The issuue is that my DH had another hernia surgery not long ago 1 1/2 yrs so I do not know if the surgeon messed up big time down there...Wish your DH luck

Hi Zizzie

Good luck to DH with the operation. I am so glad that you have a caring, understanding DR it can make such a difference when the person treating you treats you with kindness, understanding and medicine.

Crossing fingers for you in the 2ww. Dare to dream and never lose sight of your dreams. I am also glad that your family is being such a support and comfort to you. Take care of yourself.
