I live in Los Angeles CA and will be 39 in December. Getting married in August. So far I've had the HSG exam tubes are open and my fiancee has had the semen analysis and everything is fine. However because I have had DES exposure as a baby I have a abnormal shaped uterus>heart shaped or bicornuate. My endocrinologist and Obg are advising me to have a laporoscopy and hysteroscopy to shave down the uterus to make it the proper shape. Has anyone ever had this procedure done? Can you refer me to any doctors in L.A. that have a good reputation for treating uterus issues like mine?
Thanks! Belaqua

belaqua......i'm sorry i have no personal experience to share with you. however, i've heard this topic discussed time, and time again on various boards here. my best advice to you would be to put this post up on some of the other IF bbs, and maybe some of the preg bbs as well. you can also do a search under those bb's for "bicornuate uterus" and see if you can dig up some info.
good luck

Hi Belaqua: I had a septate (arcuate) uterus where the inside of the uterus is heart-shaped, while the outside looks normal (kind of like a heart inside a circle). I had a hysteroscopy to remove the septum (the pointy top part of the heart) because I was told it could interfere with implantation because of poor blood supply there. I remember my RE telling me that a true heart-shaped uterus often is not problematic because the heart shape is on the outside as well as the inside and so blood supply is not so much of an issue. But I think it may depend on how severe the heart shape is. If the uterus is really divided into two parts that might be different than a "softer" heart shape.
In any event, I wish I had an RE to refer you to, but mine is in MA. Have you tried posting on various bbs asking for RE referrals in LA? I know we have a lot of Californians here at FT! Good luck and I hope you both find an RE and find out whether surgery is your best option. ++++++++++++++ Maura p.s. CONGRATULATIONS on your marriage in August! I hope you have a great wedding!
