HPT question

Does anyone know how much HCG that the walmart brand HPT measures? Just wondering I took 2 over the weekend and BFN but of course my mind is playing tricks on me and getting some "phantom" pregnancy symtoms....(I do this to myself every month haha )

I don't know but I always thought it was similar to the other name brands.

Rather than torture myself, if I ever suspect I'm pregnant, I go straight to my OB's office and ask for a blood test. That way I know without a doubt if I am or if I am not.

haha, I would be running too BUT...I just started a new job in April and my insurance doesnt kick in until next month so whatever tests I would get would be out of pocket. So, I don't want to run there for nothing...Like I would want a really good reason like a +++ hpt haha. I just found on the internet that the Equate brand measures 25 (whatever the measurment is) so I guess I'm really not pg...I'm guessing I'm about 16dpo (if I ovulated) so it should have been way +++ by now.
So frustrating!

Sorry to hear no +++ results for you this month. Lots of ++++ thoughts coming your way for the next cycle.

I can understand why you don't want to go to the doctor while you don't have insurance coverage. For me, its just about equally expensive for me to do an HPT as it is to pay my co-pay.

kristina....according to this site http://www.fertilityplus.org/faq/hpt.html

walmart (aka equate) picks up 100 miU, which is very high. maybe you're still in the game
good luck!

Thanks! That does give me alittle hope....Funny that I was going to start tracking BBT this month and stupid AF wont come! You know, that other website had "Equate" brand listed at 25 miU and "Walmat" brand listed as 100 miU. I wonder if there is an actually brand called Equate and they didnt mean the Walmart one...I stopped at the first Equate because thats what I thought. I think I will buy an EPT and be done with it! If I'm not pg I wish that AF would just come already! But with PCOS, you just never know

aye carrumba....just what you need......conflicting info. the only reason that could justify the difference, is if they make a regular hpt, and an early hpt. either way....GOOD LUCK!

About the Equate HPT - my understanding is that the true sensitivity is 25, not 100, and that the 100 is some sort of mistake or misinformation - here is one of my favorite sites:

Good luck!!

kristina....the link i provied has a phone number next to the test name. maybe you could call them directly and get clarification on the sensitivity of the tests. neither one of the sites we provided you with is an official medical website. sometimes it's best to go straight to the source.

i found this on consumersearch....apparantly the discrepency for the equate brand might be accounted to there being 2 different tests. read below.....

You might be wondering about store brands, since almost every discount store has them, including Target, Wal-Mart, K-Mart, Walgreens, and Osco, just to name a few. About.com's Pregnancy/Birth Guide, Robin Elise Weiss, recommends Wal-Mart's Equate brand (*est. $8, two-pack), saying, "It's a great, inexpensive pregnancy test kit," with separate control and testing windows and a cap to cover the absorbent tip. Equate is available in 25 mIU (white cap) and 100 mIU (purple cap), and reviewers warn to check carefully so you know which one you're getting. Some Equate samples failed to work in product testing, or took longer to work than stated by the manufacturer, but FertilityPlus.org has this to say: "The Equate brand switched manufacturers a couple of years ago. The older test had a significant online reputation for false positives, while the newer test, manufactured by LifeCare, appear as reliable as most other brands (most brands get some reports of false positives). The main comment the test still gets is to beware of evaporation lines and read the test, like all brands, within the time limit listed in the instructions."

Many other store brands detect 40 to 50 mIU of hCG; FertilityPlus.org has a helpful comparison chart of each brand and detection levels, along with manufacturer information.
