Question temp before O

Hey all BBters-

Just curious-I know I am very near O and have notice a slight decline in my temp everyday for the past 3 days-is this normal? Is my prediction correct that O may be around the corner? I am cd16 today and every OPK so far has been -. I understand a lot of women O later when taking Clomid-is this rumor true? If so, this would explain my long cycles (32-34 days & sometimes longer but 32-34 days the past 3 months even before clomid). I am just wondering if I am analyzing the info correctly. Thanks for any input.

Jules

Hi Jules, Yes, women do tend to O later on Clomid so at cd 16, you could see O anywhere from now until cd 20 or later.... if you haven't gotten a ++OPK yet, I'd say that O is not imminent, but you never know... some women don't get a ++OPK and suddenly their temp is up and stays up, indicating O! So, keep BMSing regularly just in case, keep OPKing and temping and you'll probably see signs that something is happening soon.

As for your temp, some women get lower temps before O, but some don't, so unless you know your particular pattern it's hard to say what the lowered temps mean...

GOOD LUCK and keep us posted++++++++++

hi jules.....you're right about the clomid. it tends to delay O to around cd's 17-21 where you might normalyy be a cd 14 O'r.

as for the temps, each person is different. i would get a drop in temp the day I o'd. some women might see a more gradual decline over the course of a couple of days, and some might not get a drop at all. usually after a few months of temping you start to notice a particular pattern.

if you think you're really close to O'ing i would Start Bms'ing and continue everyother night until you get your OPK. then as long as you're not dealing with any MF, i would do everynight for a few days once you get your surge.

good luck!!

Maura-

How is it that some women don't get a + OPK but they ovulate? I hate the pee sticks with a passion, cause sometimes they look barely positive if not downright negative when I KNOW I'm ovulating with my CM and my pinging in my ovary. What is the deal with a -OPK but still having O?

Thanks!

Coo

Coo: I'm not sure why they don't work for some women... I know that women with PCOS don't find them reliable because their LH tends to be elevated throughout their cycle so the OPK reads ++... but why it would be negative, I don't know.

Some possible reasons: some brands are better than others ...the person's urine can be diluted from high liquid consumption .... the person didn't use them at the same time each day. Also, some women might have quick surges which come and go in between testing times... Finally, some women might only test in the morning when they surges tend to start (and not show up until afternoon).

But where none of these factors are true, I don't know!

Anyway, if you are charting your temp, then even if your OPK doesn't turn ++, you can be pretty sure you did O. I used OPKs some months, but not most of the time when I was ttc, simply because the OPK didn't change my BMS schedule anyway (I had a rather set, vigorous schedule!) and because I knew what was going on from my temps!

Best+++++++++++

I got the +++ OPK yesterday at 2pm!! I am cd17 today-the bad news-we only BMS'd cd12, cd13 and last night (dh worked a 48hr shift sun & mon). So he a two day build up before last night & I had a lot of good cm (TMI!!!) so that's good. However, he works today-24hrs-I won't see him until tomorrow evening!! GRRRR!! I am having a lot of discomfort in the ovary areas today-especially the right (makes sense since the u/s last month indicated I O'd from the left ovary). Should we still BMS tomorrow when I get home from work? Also-my thermometer went on the fritz this am so now what??!! I have no temp for this am!! Double GRRRRR!!! Any advice appreciated-thanks for all of your input so far-you ladies are the best!!

YAY, Jules! Glad that you got your ++OPK! My advice to you is to BMS at the next opportunity (even if the earliest is tomorrow evening) and to keep BMSing until your temp rises and stays up (assuming you get a new thermometer!)....GOOD LUCK and keep us posted!
