Please help with info

(Same post as in IUI thread)
HI Gals,

Hope all of you had a great long weekend. I am 16dipui today...and still no sign of AF. You would think I am all excited by now...but I am not even hopeful. I was on 100mg clomid this cycle and the last 2 times I took 100mg clomid (Jan and Feb of 2004), my period was delayed. The only difference this time is that I had the trigger and an IUI done this time around...and my prog. level 3dpiui was 14.

My question is...can the luteal phase be prolonged because of clomid ?
Given that I did ovulate and today is likely to be 14 or 15 days post my ovulation, is there any other reason (other than possible preg...which I don't even want to think about and get disappointed all over again) for this delay in AF?

I have mild PCOS and was on low carb diet. For many reasons, this cycle I was unable to follow the diet and I might have had too much carb food. In the past this has affected my ovulation causing delayed AF.

Please help with any information you may have. I am paranoid about testing. I have seen one too many BFNs to go there unless I am mentally prepared.

Thanks for listening.

Speed

Hi Speed: Are you on progesterone supps too? In any event, I think that Clomid can make your luteal phase longer than usual. Or you could have ovulated later than you think (but you know you had ovulated by the time you had your prog. test at 3 dpiui. Or you could be pg!

Are you going to have a beta? If you want to HPT and don't want to test too early, I would wait until you are 18 dpo if you can. That way, you will have taken into account a possible later O and a possible longer LP due to Clomid.

Best of luck and keep us posted!+++++++++++

Thanks Maura,
I am not on progesterone supps....that is probably the one problem I don't have (yet, I might add). I have no problem waiting till 18dpo, which should be Thursday or Friday...let's see if AF stays away that long. My boobs are killing me and in the past that has never been a good sign.

I have not yet called my RE's office. They's advice me to take a HPT and then call them for Beta regardless of the result of the HPT. They are good there...but I am not mentally prepared to see a BFN in the pee stick...I'd rather see AF.

Hi again, Speed: If you have no problem waiting to HPT, then you could even push it off a little more since I'm not sure how long Clomid can lengthen the luteal phase. A normal LP is 12-16 days long, which is why people say wait until 18 dpo to test, but what if a normal Clomid LP is 12-18 days (or longer)? I'll do some research to see if I can get an idea of how long Clomid LPs tend to be and I'll post back with anything I find.

Good luck and fingers crossed for you++++++++++++

Maura,

I searched the web and did find out that Clomid can lengthen the LP...but almost all places I looked seem to indicate that the length of the LP is 14 to 16 days post ovulation. I am terribly confused. Should I call me doctor's office and see what they think ?

Hi Speed: Yes, you could call now and set up a beta or you could wait a few more days like we first thought and then either call your doctor or take an HPT... whatever you feel most comfortable with!

I haven't had a chance to look at the Clomid LP issue yet, but I'm going to now...

Hi Speed: Here's the only thing I found so far... this thread from another site suggests that Clomid can extend a person's LP by 3-5 days, but I don't know how reliable it is!

http://www.liweddings.com/chat/topic...26779#P2364429

I'll keep looking....

BTW, I hope your LP is being extended by Mother Nature!

Here's another one where a woman said Clomid extended her LP by 3-4 days: http://bbs..com/board/preconception/...thread/1980171

Maura,

Were you able to find any other info. AF is still not here which is both great and extremely confusing. If this continues till tomorrow morning, I'm going to give my RE's office a call. I hope they oblige and do a beta without asking me to take a HPT. I can't begin to describe my fear of a single line. I had promised myself that I would HPT only after a positive beta....just for the heck of it.

Speed: That's great about no AF! No, I didn't find anything else and nothing from a reputable source! I know you don't want to get your hopes up, but I think things are looking pretty good for you this month! You could wait a few more days or you could go get a beta now... whatever will make you feel the sanest in this insanity that is IF!

Fingers crossed for you... GOOD LUCK and keep us posted+++++++++++

Maura,

I went in for my beta today morning. Because of insurance, they have to send out the blood to be tested. So won't know till tomorrow. Still no AF. Am cramping off and on...but very mildly. Also my lower back is killing me. Hope it is good news at the end of all this torture.

Thanks for your wishes. I will keep you posted one way or the other.
