Question Re w/tk 2nd blood test 10dpo too early?

Hi everyone,

I've been reading your posts and it really looks like you know what your talking about. My re takes blood on 8dpo and 10dpo but it sounds like you can have implantation past that, wouldn't that make the test inaccurate? This is my 3rd IVF and if I get a negative you can bet I'll be "drowning my" sorrows in the good stuff but what if implantation is late and I damage the poor thing?

Thanks for listening.

Patsy

hi patsy....glad you have confidence in us and have come out of lurkdom

here's the thing...for IVF's i believe you can get a ++ beta a little earlier than on a natural cycle...BUT...you are right. you can have implantation right up thru 12 dpo.

with regards to drowning your sorrows (which i hope you don't have to do) mother nature has a way of protecting the embryo to an extreme in the first 6 weeks of pg. i think it was intended this way b/c so often women (who aren't OCD like many of us here...LOL) don't even realize they're pg for a while.

my sister had a polyp removed from her cervix (i think they actually burned it off somehow) and she was pg (very early, only a couple of weeks) and they didn't know it. my sister had nitemares thru her whole pg that her baby was born with the top of his head singed off. needless to say she was very concerned that she had this procedure done while she was pg...but her baby was born perfectly healthy and his head was fine...LOL

ok, sorry to get off on such a tangent. the alternative, if you are very concerned is to push your b/w up to 10 dpo and 12dpo. although this is still on a fine line b/c if implantation does occur late, there's a possibility you could stilll get a false result at 12 dpo. i know i'm pobably adding to your dilemma...sorry.

i'll keep my fingers crossed that you get a +++ and don't have to worry about drowning your sorrows

Hi Patsy: Yes, you and Dina are right... you CAN get a false negative beta at 10 dpo because you can implant after that... when I was pg with ds and got an incredibly faint ++HPT at 10 dpo, I called my OB for a beta... the nurse was reluctant to give me one because she said it was too early and they didn't do them that early (I begged her and she relented). The point is, it still IS early at 10 dpo (and obviously even more so at 8 dpo!).

I think Dina's suggestion to have the betas at 10 and 12 dpo is a great one!

And as for drowning any sorrows... I'm hoping there won't be any to drown! (but Dina is also right about the pg being protected early on... so many stories of women who drank, went in hot tubs, ate sushi, etc. before they knew they were pg and all was well).

Anyway, good luck and let us know how your betas come back!

Patsy,
As you can see from my sig., I've had a lot of experience with IVF. Is it 8 and 10 DPO or 8 and 10 DPT (transfer)?? There's a big difference. When you're doing dpo for IVF, your O would be considered retrieval day, not transfer day. It also depends on how many days between retrieval and transfer. My guess is you're talking about dpt, because if it was dpo, 8 and 10 would be WAY too early.
I have had all my beta tests between 10 and 13 dp 3 day transfer. If you had a 5dt, then doing it on days 8 and 10 would be just fine. If you have a 3dt, I would suggest asking for betas on day 10 and 12 like Dina and Maura said just to ensure that a late implanter hasn't been missed.

Wishing you the BEST of luck with this cycle!!!

Robin

Good point, Robin... I didn't think that it could be post transfer and not dpo!

Good luck++++++++++

Hi girls,

Thanks so much for all your replies, let me know what you think of this next perplexing situation. My DH is out of town so that's why I'm been surfing like a fiend.
I took yet another HPT today 9dpt (9days post 3day transfer) and there was an EXTREMELY light line, so NOW what, what a freaking head game, I have totally resigned myselt that this cycle just didn't work but now I'm not sure so I've jumped on the rollercoaster again. I'm afraid it's just going to be another chemical (IVF #2). Also, just to be more obsessive I took my bbt and it was 98.9 today, might this mean anything or could PIO be doing that? I have checked it periodically through this 2ww and the hightest till now was 98.4.
Maura you really give me hope it sounds like you had a late implanter and you had a successful pregnancy, that's great! What was your cell count on that one, my best one was only 8cell with very little frag, others were 6,5,5 with frag.
Thanks so much for all your help you girls are great!

Patsy

Wow, Patsy! That sounds really promising! What kind of HPT was it? I'd take another one and see if you get another line! Good HPTs to use are e.p.t. and ClearBlue Easy. For me, CBE showed a stronger ++ before e.p.t.

When is your beta by the way? If you don't want to take another HPT, you could always call and say you've had a ++HPT and see if you can get the beta done now.

GOOD LUCK! Fingers all crossed for you! Update when you can!!

Maura
P.S. As for your question to me about cell count... I think you might be confusing me with someone else because I never did IVF.... maybe you're thinking of Robin?

Patsy,
How are you? When do you get your beta results? The faint line does sound promising!

If your cell count question was for me, I have usually had at least one 8 cell and the rest lower. For my successful cycle, I transfered a 5,6,7,& 8 cell. All good quality with little or no fragmentation. I think they like to see 8 cells, but I know that some women have gotten pg with a 4 cell that had poor quality, so you just never know.

Good luck and let us know how it turns out!

Robin
