Countdown to the plan

Well, I o'd either sunday or saturday so starts the countdown to af. I'm 99.9% sure we had bms a day too late, so not expecting anything out of this cycle. But as soon as af arrives we will start our new med plan. I will be on Clomid and glucophage, and on cd13 I will get a hormone shot to make sure I o. I'm also going to start some supplements, and since I trust all of you I was wondering if you could take a look at this plan and make sure it all looks alright. I'll just be taking so many pills, I want to make sure everythings safe.

Daily plan of supps:

1,000 IU Evening Primrose oil - cd1-O

2,000 mg Flax seed oil - O-af

1,000 mg Red raspberry

200 mg Potassium

Licorice root - cd 6-13

Robitussin

Prenatal vitamin

> Glucophage, Clomid cd5-9, Aldomet (my bp med)

Does this all look okay to you girls? I also was wondering about vitamin C. My immune system has been pretty low, so I just started taking about 600 mg of vit C a day. I'm planning on going down to 200 mg a day in addition to my prenatal vitamin. Do I need to cut that out all together?

I will also be doing my bbts again, and I'm wondering since I will get a hormane shot I won't have any need for an opk will I?

We're also going to try the Shettles method for gender selection as we REALLY want a boy, well at least one of us does (bet you can't guess who)!

Well, I've got a ton of others Q's to ask my doc's nurse so I suppose I will sign off here and give her a call. Be back soon and I'm hoping to read up on all the posts in here

God Bless,
Shavon

hi shavon....glad to see you back in the game!!! that's quite a little arsenal of vit's you got going there. but i know how it is. anything that might help right?

as far as the robitussin, you only need to take that for a few days leading up to O.

i also used to take vitamin B6 complex. it's supposed to be very helpful in building a healthy unterine lining. it interacts with our red blood cells. additionally i would take one baby aspirin (80mg) once a day. i had LPD with a lining that was out of phase, so i was trying to concentrate on that.

also, i would still OPK. you should be able to zero in on it fairly well, only using OPK's for a couple of days. but i wouldn't ditch them all together. i know many women have taken the trigger for O but still didn't know for sure when the egg was released. the OPK might help there. you don't have to, but maybe seeing as tho this is your first month with "the plan" you want to make sure you cover all of your bases.

i have to run now...but i'll be back later to check on your add'i info from the nurse. wishing you the best of luck!!

Hey back again!

Well, the nurse says not to take any supplements at all! She said because they're not FDA regulated they don't know what's in them and so they could harm the baby. But if there are a ton of women , some of which I think have said thier docs approve, that have gotten pregnant on these I don't see how that would be a possibility. So I'm probably going to take the Primrose oil, the red raspberry, and the potassium. I will probably try the baby asprin and B6 as well, since you have expierence with that.

I also asked the nurse how long after the hormone shot will I ovulate, and she said they don't know! So I probably will get an opk for our first month. I thought the doc said that within 24-48 hours I would ovulate, and that was kinda the purpose of the hormone shot. But the way the nurse was talking she said that they "hope" that they can get ovulation to occur, but they don't when it will happen after the shot. Boy, I thought it was a sure thing. At least this course of action isn't as pricey as what I was thinking. Only about $400 a month. I was thinking it might run us around $600-700 monthly. So that was a nice surprise. And cost won't even be an issue if we get our little bundle of joy!

Also, I'm a bit confused. Today I got some definite uterine cramps. I was really surprised as I think I'm only 3-7 days post O. I didn't take my temps this month either , so I don't know for sure. But is that normal to have cramping like period cramps that lasted maybe 2-5 minutes and only be that little bit past O. I've never expierenced this before, so I don't know what this is. Just watch, right before we start treatment I'll get preg!

Well, let me know you're thoughts

God Bless,
Shavon

shavon...some docs are much more conservative that others. you have to do what you're most comfortable doing.

i have heard of women taking the trigger and not O'ing, which is why i suggested the OPK.

the only time i had cramping shortly after O were the months i conceived. i sure hope this is the case for you!!! it would be ironic, but that IS the way things happen

wow that is alot, just one question that might help you out a little, but im sure you have it covered...seems kind of orginzed about the whole thing

i work in a pharmacy, so its good your on the methyldopa, thats one of the safest bp meds for pg, but its also one of the hardest on your liver, and with all the herbals i hope your doc has done a liver panel on you, wouldnt be a bad idea dependent on how long youve been on the methyldopa.

also you seem pretty well versed on the herbals, so i shouldnt have to remind you to get them from a well know health food store, these items ARE NOT regulated by the FDA(a mistake many people make) so just because the label says one thing, that dosent mean thats what your getting, and the companies are within every legal right to do this, because there are no laws or QA tests done on "suppliments" so its always buyer beware, so make sure you trust the source....is it time for me to get off my soapbox now?

best of luck on this next cycle keeping my for ya, good luck

Thanks to both of you for the concern. It's so nice to feel loved!

rudyk74-

I have not started taking the herbals just yet. Where do yuo think the best place tog et them would be? I was going to see what I could find at our local CVS. My doc did a liver panel on me last june, what is there to watch for or be concerned about? I did not know anything about liver problems. (btw, I've been on methydopa for about a year and a half)

Oh, and I may just look organized. I'm trying desperately, I really am. But right now I'm more in the planning phase. Once I get this all figured out, I'm literally going to write out a plan so I know which end is up!!

Thanks again

God Bless,
Shavon

shavon...i get my supplements from a local health food place. i was told to stay away from buying these types of things at regular drugstores as they carry very generic commercial grade stuff.

i agree with dina, stay away from places like CVS and walgreens, even target(yes target the happiest place on earth, and my employer )... the best place to go would be a true herbal medicine store, a place where you can buy the actual herb and they will grind it up and put it in capsules for you, or you can steep it in water and drink it as a tea(eww not too tasty), they are very few and far between, usually found in that hippie, granola store where Rain Sky will prepare it for you and you can check out the wide selection of bongs next place would be a local natural foods store where most people usually go, the person in the birkenstocks should be able to answer all your questions, if they cant go to another store

as far as the liver panel just making sure all your enzyme levels are normal, everything thats in your bloodstream makes a pit stop at your liver first, its there to filter out toxins, so when you take a drug, of any kind even "natural" ones your liver has to filter it. some are harder on the liver than others, why people who drink for years usually get liver failure, or people who take large amounts of tylenol. that was just a lot for your liver to go through on top of the methyldopa, but if your doctor is aware of everything your taking, and will monitor you, then by all means go ahead good luck

rudyk74 you are so funny!! You just made my day with that post!! We do have a health food store that has been around for at least 15+ years, so I'll probably look there.

As for the whole "plan", I was going to go out this weekend and buy everything, but after the cramping yesterdayI guess I'll wait to make sure this cycle is a bust. I think this is my 7th or 8th cycle (mine are spaced so far apart, we've been ttc for almost 20 mo), so I guess I should still hold out hope that maybe things worked on thier own. I just feel at this point that I CAN'T get pregnant. It's simply impossible. We will know when heck freezes over, because then and only then will I get pregnant. I'm sure you all know how I feel, it's like I don't even want to be hopeful. Dh is so great, he still has full faith and confidence that we will get preg even with the meds. I just can't believe that anything is going to happen, because if I do believe and then it doesn't I will LOOSE it!

So anyway, just pray for my sanity more than anything else!! Thanks again girls!

God Bless,
Shavon
