I use the clear blue easy fertility monitor. This month, I got high levels on CD9, 10, and 11 and then peak on days 12 and 13, and back to high on CD 14. This is closer to normal - I have been o'ving around day 9 when I o'd at all (PCOS). So, we had BMS on days 9, 11, and 12, then pooped out and did not have BMS on days 13 and 14. I guess my question is when you get the peak, that means o is coming in the next day or so right? So, is it more impt to have BMS on the evening you get the lil egg or the next day (or both)? And how about the days leading up to it - good chance of success or is it just practice?

hi kate....you should technically BMS both days that you have the egg showing, as you really don't know which day you're going to release the egg.

i (personally) would start BMS'ing the day or 2 before i knew i was going to O. healthy sperm can live in the body up to 72 hours. my dd was the result of BMS 2-3 days before O took place, so it really does happen. so i'd say there's a good chance of success there.

i think you're covered. you BMS'd cd 11 & 12, and O on CD 13 or 14. ideally (just keep in mind for next month) to avoid pooping out in the BMS dept, you can either BMS on one high day (cd 11 from this month) and then one peak day (cd 13 from this month), or wait for your peak and BMS on both days.

dh and i would usually BMS 4 days in a row. in this case both your high days and your peak days. this is also good as long as you're not dealing with MF. if you are, then you should stick to the everyother day plan.

Dina,

Thanks for the advice. So, you say that I o'd on day 13 or 14 even though I peaked on days 12 and 13. So, the CBEFM is predictive for the following day? Or, it is predictive of the LH surge on that day and ovulation follows a day later? I guess I am not clear on the science of it.

We are starting an IUI process and the NP told my dh to "spit" every 2-3 days whether or not I am involved. She said it helps to clear the tubes, and when you use more, you make more. She also said that sperm takes 60-90 days to form, so any habits he has now (long bike rides, hot tubs) can affect us 2-3 cycles down the road. She also insisted that he take a multi vitamin which I have been trying to coinvince him for years. And we have no MF problem - these are just general tips that they give.

kate, i'm sorry i fi confused you. you're right, you would've O on cd 12 or 13....if that's when you got your egg. i think i had a brain zap reading the numbers... sorry about that. so you are definitely covered! you did good!

great that you have no MF, however the advice you've been given is correct. although men think they have little to do but just produce sprem, their activities do in fact affect their production. my dh LOVES the hot tub and i was forever telling him the extreme temperature adversely affects his "boys." as does alcohol consumtion, smoking and lack of release. not that the later is much of a problem for most men. but in order for the body to keep producing new sperm, the "old" sperm must be released on a regular basis. so the advice on the "spitting" is right on

multivitamins are good, as is extra vitamin C, but i also had no luck getting dh to take them regularly either.

so it sounds like you have gotten very detailed advice. follow all the advice you've been given, and i'll bet you'll turn up pg in no time
