using LH surge as HPT

I have heard over the years on this board that you can use an ovulation predictor test to see if there is any HCG in the urine

I am cycle day 28 or 27 and I have not started spotting (usually starts on day 21) so I thought oh I will just try it since there are now 7 in a pack and two lines came up. I know I have to get a real test but thought I would ask what you know.

Surprised!

PBW...i have heard this in the past, but i have never personally used an OPK as an HPT. different brand OPK's will react differently. some brands will pick up a second line at any given time of the month because there is always some amount of LH in our systems.

that said......i am waaaaay too anal of a person to not sit there and second guess (to death) the meaning of that second line

how many dpo O are you? you said you're on cd 28(ish)? if you typically O on cd 14, i'd run right out and get a real HPT!!!

let us know how it goes and good luck!

Hi there: Because LH and HcG are chemically very similar, sometimes an OPK will turn ++ if there's HcG present and an HPT will turn ++ if there's high enough levels of LH ...

As you probably suspect, though, unfortunately you can't tell what the your ++OPK means because women have always have LH in their bodies and so some women will always see two lines on an OPK and some women will see true ++OPKs (where the result line is the same color or darker than the reference line). That's why it's a good idea to follow up with an HPT, as I'm sure you are going to do now if you haven't already!

Best of luck and let us know how things turn out+++++++

I agree with all that was said. I did get "real" HPT tests today to make sure. I happened to have a whole set of OPK so I said what the heck. The good part is that I am a veteran to all of these tests and I have found that when I am not near the LH surge the line is nearly undetectable. this time it was significantly darker than reference.

Needless to say I will not believe it until I get a + HPT and see a heartbeat at 6 weeks.

I will see tomorrow or later today. Of course I bought 2!

Thanks for the input

PBW

I tested and I got a ++++. I still cannot believe it. All on our own!
