bbt confusing

hi im new tpo this whole thing, i have a 6yr old daughter and cannot get preg now. been over 1 1/2 yrs so finally went to my gyn and started down the obssesive compulsive road of cycle plotting. md did bloodwork on day 3 including a thyroid test all of wich came back normal, took clomid on days 3-7 and am currently on day 17, have to have progesterone levels on day 21. okay enough with the formalities got a late start on bbt plotting started on day 12 which was 5 days after the last clomid, and temp has been consistantly 97.0-97.1, also been doing the saliva opk and saw ferning on days 11 and 12 thats all, my question is what to belive the fact that i should o between 5-10 days after the last clomid dose, the bbt which shows no change, or the saliva that showed ferning for only 2 days, or should i just say the scrap it and staert over next month...i know a lot to take in, told you just a little obssesive

Hi there! I would believe your temps. Many women do not ovulate when they're "supposed to" on Clomid, some not ovulating until cd 20 or even later. I note, though, that you could ovulate today and still be in the window given to you since you are right now 10 days after stopping your Clomid.... it'll be interesting to see if your temp rises tomorrow!

As for saliva ferning, maybe you had elevated levels of LH that caused the ferning (if it's the LH that causes the ferning!) but not enough to O. Saliva analysis can be helpful, but I don't think it's as reliable as temping.

I definitely wouldn't scrap it all and start over! I would keep taking your temp and continue to BMS (if that's what you're doing, as opposed to an IUI) regularly and I bet you'll see your temp rise soon.

i agree with maura. most women i know that take/have taken clomid usually O much later than on a non-med cycle. i would keep temping.

also, as a side note: most doctors call for a "cd 21" progest test assuming (which we all know is dangerous) that you've O on cd14. so in a perfect world, with 28 day cycles and day 14 O, cd 21 would be perfect. BUT.......the test is actually supposed to be performed 7 dpo. so a cd 21 progest test is moot if you've only O on cd 19-20ish. many doctors fail to explain this to their patients clearly. if it appears that you'll be O late (which it appears you will since you're already on cd17) i would call your doc and see if he wants to bump your progest up a little later. lotsa luck!

thanks for the advice, as for the saliva tests its the ammount of estrogen on your body that causes the ferning patter of dries saliva, theory being that it can give you a better window for o. because the estrogen will be at its peak levels for a period of about 6 days and this is the time of o. they say that you will start to see the ferning, about 3 days before o and about 3 days after making your six most fertile days. supposed to give you better warning for when it will happen as opposed to bbt that tells you after you o. dont know just getting to be a little compulsive now, but i dont mean to dh and i are having bms its hard for him he thinks im taking all the fun out of it and only having sex with him to get pg. he wants more kids but has the man theory of if you just have a lot of sex it will happen eventually, so he knows all about everything and has talked with the md but he dosent feel it should be talked about every waking moment and we should both just relax, esp me so whatcha going to do thats why everyone on the web gets to hear my rantings thanks for listening and any more advice is always welcome bye for now

Yes! I too would postpone the prog. draw until you are 7 dpo (forgot to mention that!)!

LOL....LOVE your dh's theory about having lots of sex all the time! sounds like a theory my dh would run with as well.

you're right about the temping theory. it's a hindsight science. but once you get familiar with your body and your temping patterns, you'll start to see it coming. also, the OPK will zero in even further than 6 days if you're looking to really pinpoint. have you tried those?

P.S. we're here to listen to you rant we've BTDT too!

thanks to everyone for the support, yeah dh has a lot of those testosterone driven theories, lol, but thats why we love them

you know i was going to buy just the lh sticks, but the scope was the same price and you can use it over and over, thought i was being cost effective, but im starting to think i wasnt

i had some funny cramps about cd 12 not really cramps but more like a pulling sensation, and very light pink spotting but then it was gone my gyn said it was probably my ovaries being stimulated from the clomid and that was a good sign who knows im all new to this, if i knew how i got pg the first time (was not planned) i would do that again!!!!! thanks for listening
