Question Really Nervous......

Hi Everybody,

I wonder if anybody can give me some answers, I have my first appointment at my local hospital next week after having been referred from my doctor, does anyone know what they will do? I have been trying for a baby for 21/2years now with obviously no luck but no tests either!! The thing is I do have children ( im sorry if I upset anyone )all to my husband and had no trouble at all and now I just don't have a clue as to what is going on. I keep thinking I must have something really wrong with me and Im a wreak!! any help would be really appreciated as I have no-one else to talk to really.

Thanks.

hi badgermonkey.....welcome aboard!!

i understand your jitters, but try not to worry too much. more than likely there won't be too much done during your first appt. they'll probably take basic information and give you info re: the protocal they follow for testing. certain tests have to be done on certain cycle days, so they may tell you to come back accordingly.

they may encourage you to temp and OPK to verify O is occurring. then follow that up with a progesterone test done via b/w (bloodwork).

i unfortunately also waited 2 1/2 years after TTC to check into things. i was completely ignorant to the fact that secondary IF even existed. there doesn't have to be any major problems, it could just be age related. if you're 35 or above, it becomes more and more difficult to conceive and/or maintain a pg without assisitance.

it also could have nothing to do with you. your dh's sperm production could've changed over the years as well. your dh's SA will more than likely be one of the first things they look at.

if there's anything specific you'd like to know, i'm sure many of us here have various experiences to share. let us know how your appt goes.

best wishes!!!

Welcome. Dina has already told you what to expect at your appointment ... I'll just add that you should write down as much information about your past 2+ years of trying, including any unusual cycles or periods... any cramping ... and just a chronology of your ttc .... and bring with you a list of any questions. Sometimes it can be hard to remember all of these things when sitting in your doctor's office!

And no need to worry about upsetting anyone here with mention of your other children. Many people here are ttc for # 2, 3 etc. and can relate. If you want, you can add (child. ment.) in the title to any thread where you talk about them. That way if anyone is feeling sensitive, they can choose not to read your post.

We are here to help you however we can! Good luck and let us know how the appointment goes!

+++++++++++++
