Question about timing in relation to BBT
pg ment
My dh and I are on our 3rd IUI cycle using ds and injectibles. Despite having several mature follies, the first 2 resulted in BFN. Since I have been pg before and all tests are "normal" on me, we are realizing the importance of timing with this procedure. Apparently, unthawes, washed sperm only lasts 12 hours so we have to get the timing really close! So my question is basically this: if we were to do 2 IUI injections, when should they occur based on my temps? Would the first one be on the morning my temp drops and then the second one on the next day when my temo rises? We also are having u/s but I just wanted to know what you think the timing should be based on temps. (I don't even know if we would be able to schedule accordingly; I'd just love the info.) Thanks sooo much for any help and advice!! Kelly

hi kelly....i'm sorry about your neg's. many of us here can relate to your frustrations.
i'm really not going to give you the definitive answer that you're looking for....but maybe i can give you some info and that will help... i don't know what type of history you have with temping, but i (personally) hit a monthly low the day of O. some women have a dip 2 days before they O, or one day before. i don't think it would be beneficial to plan your IUI's around your temps. temping is a "hindsight" kind of science. it's only after you've gotten at least 3 days of increased temps that you can safely say you O days before, KWIM? i know many women that were OPK'ing 2x a day when going thru IUI using washed sperm, because as you said, the life expectancy is shorter, and it's easy to miss the window of opportunity. generally most docs like to base IUI on OPK's and u/s. you said your doc is doing u/s's, so they should be able to confirm when a good time to do the IUI is. in an ideal situation, you'd get a dip on the day you O, and a temp rise the next day inidcating O has occurred. IUI on both of those days would be great, b/c even after the egg is released, it's still viable and able to be fertilized for up to 24 hours. but again, you can't base your timing on temps. you can use temping as an aide, in conjunction with OPK, u/s and the advice of your doc, and i'm sure he'll pinpoint the timing perfectly. lots of luck!!!! let us know how you do!!
