Clomid and Prometrium

Hi, I just had a couple quick questions and am hoping you could help me out...............

Basically, what is going on is I'm near 40, and am trying for the first time to get PG. My OB/Gyn has referred me to an RE, but there is a 2 month waiting period to get in, so in the meantime they are having me try a couple rounds on Clomid w/Prometrium (they tested my Progesterone levels and said they were low).

I did Clomid (50mg) for days 5-9, then 2 days after I O'd (around days 14 & 15 in my cycle), I started the Prometrium suppositories (100mg in AM, and 100mg in PM). My cycles are fairly consistent, usually 24 days, with AF on day 25. With ALL that said........my question is; today is day 29, and I still haven't had AF arrive, and I've done some hpt's (EPT & Answer brands).......I have tried 4 of them and all have been BFN. Do you think it's possible that the Prometrium is just delaying AF? Or am I just using the HPT's too soon? My dr. said she doesn't want to do a beta till 14 dpo. (So I have to wait till next week).

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance!!!!! Shampagne

Hi Shampagne. It's possible that the HPTs are false negatives because up to 10% of pg women will get a negative when testing at the time AF is due. On the other hand, it's also possible that Prometrium is delaying AF. The best way to tell what's happening right now is a beta, which you should be eligible for now, no? If you ovulated on cd 15 (or 14) and you are on cd 29, then you are 14 dpo, right? So, maybe your doctor will give you one tomorrow?!

I hope so! Fingers crossed that you get a resolution and that it's a ++ one. Keep us posted and good luck!

Thank you for your reply Maura!! I am actually on cd30 today, still neg HPT this morning.........I am almost sure it's just the Prometrium causing a delay........I keep swearing AF is on her way. My dr. is going to make me wait till Monday to test - WHA!

Thanks again!!! Shampagne

hi shampagne...just wanted to wish you luck. i agree with what maura said. prometrium can delay af, but i hope it's the false neg's!

Ditto to what Maura and Dina said about the Prometrium but I am praying the hpt was a false neg.

Good luck this cycle and tons of ++++++thoughts.

Please keep us posted.

Hi there: When did you start taking it and how long did your doctor say to keep taking it? From what I've seen here, some women get AF right after stopping it, while others can take up to 14 days after stopping to get it.

I hope it comes soon!

Good luck and let us know how things are going+++++++++

yes, the prometrium (progeterone) is keeping af away. i was instructed to take a pregnancy test at 14dpo and if it was neg, then i am supposed to stop taking the prometrium and call my re w/ the first day of my cycle.
