New Here... Need Help
Hi everyone,
I've been lurking around the infertility boards for a while. To briefly explain my situation, DH and I have been trying for 4 years and have done several IUI's with no success. We are on a break right now. Trying to save up some more money. Anyways, AF is always regular for me. Well I am officially 6 days late today, so I tested yesterday afternoon thinking it had to be positive, and it was neg. Any ideas what could be going on. I have no idea what is going on. I'm thinking I will see what happens today and test again tomorrow morning. Any ideas/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Gina

Hi Gina and welcome to the bb
! A couple of possibilities came to mind when I read your post. First, you might be pg, but just testing too early. You might have ovulated later than usual and so even though you are "late" when comparing to past cycles, not enough HcG has built up to be detectable on an HPT. Or you could be pg, but be one of those people who don't get a ++HPT for whatever reason. Up to 10% of pg women will get a false negative when testing at the time AF is due and some women never get a +HPT at all (but a blood test shows they are positive). Or you might not be pg, but ovulated later than usual and so AF will come later than usual. Finally, the last possibility is that you didn't ovulate at all this month. In that case, you might start bleeding on your own or you might have to jump-start your cycle again. Even if you are usually very regular, it's possible to have a "fluke cycle" now and then when you either ovulate later than usual or don't ovulate at all. As long as your cycles resume normally the next month, these flukes are nothing to worry about. If I were you, I would test again tomorrow as you plan to do and if that test is still negative, I would go see the doctor and get your blood tested for HcG and also progesterone to see whether you ovulated and whether you are pg. I hope you did and you are ! Good luck and keep us posted++++++++++++Maura p.s. What kind of testing have you had done? Do you have a diagnosis? Have you been to an RE or just an OB? |

Hi Maura,
Thanks for the reply. I am going to test again tomorrow to see what happens. If AF still hasn't showed and I get a negative again, I will call the doctor. As far as testing goes, DH has a low count, but his numbers were still pretty good during our inseminations. He was diagnosed with a Pituitary tumor two years ago, we took a year off of trying while he was getting treated. He was declared tumor free about 6 months ago. We have been seeing an RE for about 7 months. I have had an HSG which came out good. Both tubes were open. My RE wants to do a Laparoscopy, but my insurance doesn't cover it... so we are saving up for the procedure. This has been such a frustrating battle for us, and I hate to get my hopes up.... just to be disappointed again. I guess thats why I waited 5 days to test. Anyways, I really enjoy reading all of the posts and questions on this board. They have helped me tremendously. Gina |

update
Well just wanted to give you an update. I tested again this morning, and apparently the test was defective. Nothing showed up. So.... I tested again right now and got another negative. Have no idea what is going on at this point, because I'm sure I ovulated this month. I'm going to call my RE this afternoon and see what he thinks. I appreciate all of your +++++ thoughts and prayers. I'll keep you updated.
