Useful Info. from OB Appt. Yesterday

I had my OB appt. yesterday and I really love her. I just hope she will be the one on call to delivery my babies. She is my age and has a child of her own and just has the best bedside manner and is always really helpful in explaining everything so I understand it.

I just wanted to share a couple things that she told me yesterday that may be helpful for some of you.

    1) I am having twins and am already feeling so much pressure on my back/bladder. I sit at an office job most of the day and I feel like these babies are on my tailbone. Ouch!! She suggested the Belly Support Belt from Motherhood. I bought it on my way home yesterday and I can honestly say it has provided instant relief.

    2) She had me take the Protein urine test for Pre-eclampsia at only 14 wks. which is really early because I am at greater risk for developing it due to having diabetes and carrying twins. This is the test where you collect your urine in a big jug over a period of 24 hrs. This test is usually done to help diagnose pre-eclampsia. She explained to me that she wanted to get a baseline of protein level in my urine in order to avoid an inaccurate pre-ecalmpsia diagnosis down the road. She explained that women are sometimes misdiagnosed with this which leads to unnecessary inductions and c-sections as protein in the urine can be caused by other things such as an underlying kidney disease or some woman may just have higher levels naturally due to metabolism. Anyway, just thought this was interesting as I hadn't heard of doctors getting a baseline on this test before but they probably should, especially for those who may be at greater risk.

That's helpful, thanks!!! My back has been so sore and I've just been at a loss at to why. I actually think part of it is the position I'm laying in on my side, my belly is pulling on my back unevenly and making one side of it really sore. I just don't know how to sleep anymore!!! But I have a belly band and will try that to see if it brings some relief.
