    "down" in Memphis- (long vent..)

So, DH and I decided to do a laid back vacation this yr. for our 8th due to the obvious. I planned this surprise trip and decided not to tell him where we were going until the morning we left-(Sat.).
I picked Memphis Tn. I figured it was quiet and when else would we want to go to Graceland, etc..? So on Sat. we got up and headed on our 5.5 hr. "road trip".
We had a nice drive and then we got to our Hotel.. Well, it is yucky!
We checked in and there were loud, drunk, obnoxious people every where because of this Beale Street Music Fest going on all weekend.. (normally I would be all about that, but being preggo with twins, no drinking, pushing crowds, loud music and standing/walking for hrs. doesn't sound like fun right now..).
Anyway, the room is on the back side of the hotel with Interstate noise, it wasn't the cleanest and I just wanted to leave and go get something to eat.

We looked in a guide and found some "great" italian place.. jumped in the car and it lead us to the wrong side of town.. scary.. I think there were drug deals going on along ea. corner..

We headed back to the HOtel where we were going to eat in the dining room but there was no hostess to seat us so we left.. took a trolly and ended up at Poncho's-(a cheap mexican restaurant)..

Anyway, to sum it all up... I am MISERABLE. After 2-3 hrs. of walking, I am exhausted and need to lay down. I am hungry every 2 hrs. and the last thing I want to do is have sex.. Poor DH.

The bad news is, we have another 1 1/2 days of this and I think we have already done everything there is to do in Memphis...
I just want to have my energy back.. I feel like an old lady...oh, and I keep getting those horrible sharp rib pains along with ligament pains after I walk/stand for a while... I can't do anything...

Thanks for letting me vent. I just could cry. I Think I want to go home tomorrow-(a day early.. I know I sound like a baby...)

edited to add: at least DH brought his Laptop so I could vent to my AHM'S!

oh andrea! i feel your pain! we have trip booked to NYC at the end of the month, and i'm not sure how i'm going to do with it. we only booked 2 nights b/c even not preggo, i have a history of wanting to come home early (we even came home early from our honeymoon b/c i was homesick!)
i hope you get thru the last part of your vacation...complain at the hotel, and maybe you can get an upgrade or something?
most of all, get some rest and relax....even if it's a boring trip, if you feel rested, it will be worth it.

I am sorry as I normally do not post on this BB but, I do live in Memphis. I felt your pain reading your post and I am terribly sorry you had a terrible time. This time of year is Memphis in May on the river/Beale St. Millions of people from all over come to Memphis in May and we are honoring Ireland this year. Also this weekend was the Music Fest with hundreds of different bands playing which meant, many many many people downtown.
Graceland is in a generally bad part of town and I can just only imagine what your hotel was like
Was the Italian Restaurant you were talking about happen to be Spaghetti Wharehouse? It is in an alley way downtown Memphis and it can be pretty scary at night driving to the restaurant. I do hope you come to Memphis again. However May, Aug and Jan are prime time for Elvis fans as they, flock to all of the hotels and tour Graceland. May is our Memphis in May time/Bar-B-Q fest also.

I am so sorry your "surprise" trip turned into a disaster!! I think you should definitely leave early, go somewhere else, or go home and plan another more relaxing trip for a few days to make up for this. Go to the beach or to a bed and breakfast. Most of your feelings are obviously because of being pg and you are sure not an old lady!! Your energy and party girl self will emerge again!!

Hang in there...and for sure complain to the hotel!!
    xo, Erin

Thanks for the replies.. I am feeling a little better today. After having some pretty strong rib and ligament pain we decided to come home this morning.
So, I am home on my sofa with my feet up resting.. I feel so frustrated that I don't have the energy/stamina I am used to. My DH is supportive but I know this is not the anniversary he was hoping to.
Today is our 8th anniversary and we came home early from our trip and picked up Outback on the way home for dinner.
I am so glad he is supportive... I don't know what I would do without him right now..

Andrea, happy anniversary. I'm so sorry it didn't turn out the way you had hoped. A bad travel experience stinks anytime, but I can't imagine dealing with it right now. I can totally relate to feeling old and no fun. We had to cancel our trip to Hawaii. We were supposed to leave tomorrow and I know I am going to feel so blue about it all day. But I keep reminding myself that I will be my old self eventually. It's funny how pregnancy makes you feel like you'll feel this way forever, even if you know you won't. Crazy hormones! Keep your chin up, you are coming into the home stretch!

Hey gal. Anniversaries and birthdays just take back seat now. For my dh big 40th, I gave him an 8 day old baby and a wife with a raging case of mastitis. It sucks being a grown up sometimes, but as my ds pointed out, we can stay up as late as we want and eat all the ice cream we want, so there ARE tradeoffs.....

hang in there. You are cooking up the best gift for your marriage in the WHOLE WORLD. I am impressed with you for even attempting travelling while pg with twins!!! You get a big A+!!!
