Breast Feeding & Loosing Weight

Is anyone else here breastfeeding? My appetite has picked up since breastfeeding but I have some weight that I want to loose. And, everytime I snack, I feel bad! Like I am being a fatty.

How can I try loosing weight while bf? Is this even possible? I don't want to compromise my supply.

I've read that your body holds on to the fat storage when you are breastfeeding at first (esp for the first 3 mths), but after the 6 mth mark breastfeeding makes you lose more weight than formula feeding.

everything I have read says don't try to lose weight while breastfeeding. you will lose it by giving calories to baby. you actually need to consume more calories while bfing than when you were preg.

Weight Watchers has a breast feeding plan.

I signed up for the online one, I just haven't buckled down yet.

You should be a lot more hungry - if you want to shed the pounds, try healthier choices to satisfy the hinger. Yogurt, trail mix, fruits and veggies, that kind of stuff.

I am in a different boat because I started the pg overweight and did not gain much. But at this point, I am about 15 pounds down from my pre-pg weight, so successful BFing and weight loss can happen.

Good luck!

I loved the WW online program. I didn't do the BF program, but I did good on the regular one. I am not ready to think about my weight yet. It is a hard time because it is time to start wearing cooler weather clothes so I need to sort through everything.

I do know my book from the hospital said BF and dieting don't mix.

BF and dieting don't mix. With WW, they give you extra "points" so it isn't a true diet.

With DD E, I lost nine pounds in my first week.

I need to get to it!

Losing this weight in general is gonna suck...

The only thing making me sane is the 5% spandex in my jeans and other clothes. God Bless the person who realized that 5% spandex helps things "fit" even if you are not the same weight you were when you purchased them I guess this also explains to me when I see people who have lost weight and are now a "size 8" and I'm trying to figure up why that does not make sense- it must be the magical spandex

I am still working on losing about 15 more lbs. I tried to jog the other day and I think my uterus was ready to fly out. My "insides" still feel bruised and wrong (wrong as in not normal). So, I guess I am back to walking hills in the neighborhood.

Good luck to us all, BF or not...

Michellei thanks for posting this. I was wondering the same thing. My appetite is insane right now. I figured it was BF related as it happened as soon as my milk came in. Unfortunately all I want is sweets. Every evening I have sat down and eaten 1/2 carton of ice cream (but some of that may be stress related ). So far I seem to be burning more than I am eating but I'm sure that will level off quickly.

I need WW I think! My OB said I had GAINED weight from 2 weeks post-partum to 4 weeks post-partum . I finally went to the YMCA the other day and stepped on the scale, I hadn't known the entire PG how much I'd gained. Yeouch, I'm 21 lbs up still from my pre-preg weight, and I think they mentioned I'd lost 15-17 lbs from the hospital to the 2 week post-partum visit..... so I had gained 36-38 lbs overall? PoRkER= me! And my baby was only 6 lbs 1 oz, so it was all mama fat (fat bewbies!)

I've been wanting chocolate and sweet things too. Oh boyo. Bought a pint of my favorite gelato but haven't finished it yet.
