not sitting up from lying on back yet!

Hi everyone...Karlie will be 10 mths on June 8th & still's not able to sit herself up when she's on her back yet or rolling from back to tummy!! She's pulling herself up, scooting, clapping & fine motor skills are right on target. I had Early Intervention come out few mths ago cause she wasnt rolling at all, now when i put her on her tummy, she immediatly rolls to her side. I also went to another pediatrician yesterday to get a second opinion cause my pedi doesnt seem overly concerned, and the new guy pretty much isnt either. He said she's doing everything else right on target & can sit on her own no problem (just cant get there yet on her own!!) He said its probably just a "quirky" thing & she just doesnt want to do it. Its just frustrating cause when she tips over if she reaches for something further away, she'll just lay there hanging out on her back, but manage to slither on her back & get to the other side of the room! Anyone else evr experience this with a child? She's due for her 10 mth checkup on 6-15, she now weighs 17.3 pds & is 27 inches, & so doesnt wanna be on the floor anymore...she wants up, up, up!!!! Hope everyones peanuts are doing great!

Hi dre, I'm sure that it's frustrating but it sounds like she's absolutely fine. Some babies just do things on their own time. My pedi said the same thing to me about Kyle not rolling over at his 6 mth appt. He said that his fine motor skills were great and that he was very bright and active with everyone and that the gross motor skills would come later. He finally started rolling over at around 7 mths and hasn't looked back. And actually, now that I think about it, Kyle doesn't sit up from laying on his back, he rolls to his side or belly and then gets up.

My DD was almost 10 mths before she started rolling over and crawling and 14+ mths before she walked.

I would just give her some time and maybe even try showing her how to do it and I bet she'll catch on quicker than you think.

    barge from June

This last year has really taught me to be patient, that my DD is going to do things on her own time and not according to some book
She was crawling early (commando-style by 6.5 months, and full-blown crawling about a month later) but her fave resting spot between crawls was on her side. She wouldn't get back to a sitting position from a crawl position...I briefly worried about it because all the books said she "should" be able to do it by then, but she seemed just fine in so many other ways I stopped worrying about it. And sure enough, she started getting into a sitting position about 3-4 weeks ago from crawling! She's also starting to walk and I think it came with that
Try not to stress - all babies do their stuff at different times. They're just expressing their individuality early!

Christian is slowly getting around more and more and he will be 10 months on the 4th. I am surprised, also, that he can't get into a sitting position by himself yet but his other things are right on target. They all do things differently and at different times. Don't pay attention to what they "should" be doing at which time frame. You will drive yourself crazy for many years to come It will all come together as long as there are other targets that are being reached.
