Kyle started with a little head cold on Thursday. He had a little fever on Friday and was drooling and biting his hands like crazy. I figured that it was his teeth and just continued to give him some Tempra and saline spray for his nose. Saturday he started a little cough and I thought, I will just watch it because it wasn't hard or anything and his older brother and sister had a cold through the week. Saturday night he ended up sleeping in his swing because he was so stuffed up.
Anyways, yesterday morning when he woke up his cough really seemed worse and he was really wheezy. I told DH that I wanted to take him to a walk-in-clinic to get him checked just in case because I didn't like the sound of it. So, we get him ready and go and the Dr. checks him and says, you must take him to the ER ASAP! I'm starting to freak out and he says that he has the beginnings of bronchitis/asthma/chest infection and he needs to be put on a ventilator to open up his lungs.
So, off we go to the hospital with my sick little guy. We were there from 1pm to 8pm last night. His oxygen when we arrived was 93 and he had 4 doses of the ventilin and his oxygen level went back up to 97 and the Dr. felt better with releasing him at that point. He is on amoxicillian for 7 days and a liquid steriod for 4 days that will help open his lungs up. He was even much better last night after the ventilin and was able to down a bottle of milk. He actually slept pretty well considering - half the night in his crib and the other half in his swing.
I will be calling his pedi to do a follow-up later in the week but hopefully he's on the mend. If his breathing gets laboured again I'm supposed to take him back to the ER, so, we are pretty much staying put in the house for the rest of the week.
Hope that everyone is doing well.
**Update**
Had to take little man back to the ER yesterday evening. They had to give him another 3 does of the ventilin and mask. Dr. showed us a procedure to do to him - lay him on his side and cup your hand and pat his back strongly (doesn't hurt him) to loosen up the flem/mucous on his chest/lungs. Do this for about 5 to 10 mins per side about 4 to 5 times a day. It really works as it is getting alot of the stuff up off of his chest. He's still not eating well but I hope that will pick up in a couple of days. Going to take him to his pedi on Thursday for a follow-up but hope that we don't have to make anymore trips back to the ER.

SHERB- OH no!!! Very stressful to say the least. Minor colds etc are stressful with a baby, but lowered oxygen levels, chest congestion etc would make me a mess!!! You must have been so worried, I'm glad he's on antibiotics and will pray for a quick recovery for your handsome lil guy! Keep us posted!

We saw his pedi today and he says that he is doing really well. The wheezing is finally gone and while he still has a cough, he is much better. Still not sleeping great but that's another story. And his appetitie seems to be coming back again. So, I hope that this is all behind us. Thanks for all the well wishes ladies.
