I got J's the summer before first grade at TCP. He's now going into third and will keep the same backpack. I made sure to have him pick one without characters on it so he wouldn't outgrow it. It's some benign sports thing. I swear it looks just like it did the day we brought it home from the store. What I REALLY like about it is the lunchbox (same pattern and perfectly roomy enough) clips to the outside of it.
Do they get lost? Nope, not yet
what do you send to school for lunch with them? Pretty much the same as everyone else except I have a kid who doesn't like sandwiches so he gets lunchmeat/cheese/pickle roll ups, homemade pimento cheese/crackers, homemade beef jerky, lots of fresh fruit, apples/peanut butter, hard boiled eggs, and he's weird...he also takes edamame and beets. Go figure. Oh and the only sandwich he likes is peanut butter and honey on those Arnold's rounds.
do they know what to do with them once they get to school? Yep
how can I ensure their belongings will come home at the end of the day, every day? Like someone else said, you can't. Just remember there's a lost and found, lol.
any good cheap easy clean lunch ideas you can share? See the other question

My sons have been using Hanna Andersson backpacks for the last two years. They are still in really good shape. But I am going to buy them new ones this year. I got Cassi a Lands End one for Kindy this year.
One son has picked out another HA backpack but the other one is undecided....he can never make a decision when there's too many choices. LOLTami

I just went and got the HA backpacks today. I was holding off on buying them bc I was not happy about the shipping fee and tax but ds kept asking me if his backpack was here. I showed it t him a few days ago in the catalog and apparetnly he really really liked it and he thought I had already purchased it. I told him I would get him something soon and it turned out he realy really wanted the monster one bc it was YELLOW. The owl packpack was sold out by the tme I got to it so I jsut went w the monkey set instead for her. I will probbaly buy anotherset somewhere along the line bc knowing me, looking at the exact same backpac and lunch tote every frikkin day will start to annoy me. I change out my own purse every few days bc I get bored so I can only imagine what a school backpack will do to me. lol!
Does anyone remember what Caro used to do with Sho's lunch? she made these amazing creations everyday. I am tempted to try it out too but Im dont know if I wll have the time or creativity for it. and I dont want my kids getting picked on for taking a traditional bento to school... sandwiches will be trial and error for us since its not the norm around here. maybe I should test out lunches before school starts. I will pack them up in the morning and set them aside until noon and then let them to go town witht he contents and see waht happens.
sigh... kindy... im not ready for kindy...BFP on first IVF with triplets!!

I never met you, but I know you. I never held you, but I feel you. You don't cry, but I hear you. Thank you for M and S. You would like them a lot.
RIP Shelbey (Aug 12, 2011) I miss you like crazy.

You can always buy a set of cookie cutters and cut the sandwiches with those. Might make it more interesting for them that way.
