I am having issues with this new feeding schedule!!!!!!!!!!! She doesn't even come close to eating enough formula if I feed her solids twice a day? Hailey still only eats 4 oz at a time, except for her bed time cereal bottle. That's usually 6-7 oz. What are your feeding schedules looking like now that you have added solids?

Bree- my pedi's nurse told me once you're on solids, the minimum they want to see with formula goes down to 16oz. Evan has 2TBSP of oatmeal in the morning, one container of veggies at lunch and 3 TBSP of oatmeal for dinner. He also only eats around 4 oz at time (sometimes more sometimes less) but on average gets around 25 oz of formula. However as you can say, he eats quite often...like every 2 hours unless he's napping!
I'm keeping a spreadsheet of his daycare schedule and this is an average one.
6:45 wake
6:45 bottle 3
7:45 cereal
8:00 bottle 4
8:55-9:35 nap
10:00 bottle 3.5
11:00-11:40 nap
11:50 sweet potato
12:00 bottle 4
12:55-3:20 nap
3:30 bottle 3
4:30 bottle 2
5:30 bottle 3.5
6:15 cereal
7:15 bottle 2

bre, Hailey is so freakin adorable and look at how big she is!!!!! OMG, 6 mths already! Time sure flies doesn't it.
Regarding the juice and water, when Kyle was only a couple of weeks old and was constipated, my pedi told me I could give him prune juice watered down, so, it's not a problem, just as long as it isn't alot.
I was giving Kyle juice at around 6 mths. I use the Heinz baby juices and I started with 1/2 juice and the rest water and then upped it to half juice and half water by about 8 mths. I still water it down now so that he isn't getting just juice. I was concerned that he was only getting about 20 ozs of formula at around 6 mths as well but my pedi said that as long as he was eating solids, putting on weight, that he wasn't too concerned.

We have our first runny, stuffy nose over here too. Should I just keep making sure that he can breathe with that horrible suction thing? He seems pretty happy otherwise....

For baby colds, I've heard people swear by the Nosefrida. I just bought one but haven't had to use it yet.
As for juices, pedis are really no longer recommending them, since they're mostly sugar. Unless of course you have a problem like constipation. No water before 6 months, and after 6 months some pedis recommend you boil it. And no mineral or spring water (mineral content is too high). I would talk to your own pedi and go with their recommendations.34 yrs old, anovulatory due to PCOS

Hi all,
I only give pear juice for constipation. As the boys grow I plan to not give any juice - only milk and water. I just read in a magazine (Parents, I think?) that babies get all the hydration they need from formula or breast milk during the first year. However, I've also heard you can offer water from a sippy cup around 9 months to start transitioning off the bottle. Ahhhh...many opinions. Maybe ask your pedi and go with what you're comfortable with. Is that the standard answer for EVERY question we have about our LOs?!?!
bre - good to have you back. so sorry to hear about your father. I hope you have many happy memories to enjoy. hugs.
our feeding schedule:
7am - 8oz formula
9:30 or 10am - 2oz fruit
11am - 8oz formula
3pm - 8oz formula
6pm - 2oz veggies
7pm - 8oz formula
Sometimes Nicholas only takes 7 oz, but Evan always drains his bottles, and both boys always finish their solids.
Somewhat O/T: have you heard the story about the couple who became pg with someone else's embryos?! One of the couples lives near me, and in a neighboring city to the IVF clinic we used. I'm really curious if they used the same clinic?! The pg couple lives in Ohio, and my clinic has an office in Toledo. Holy cow! I can't even begin to imagine the anguish these 2 families have been in the past 9 months. Anyway, I can't stop thinking about them.
Gotta run, but will write more later.

Wow Heather..your boys drink a ton. So you're not doing cereal at all?
I've heard the same thing at juice and my pedi said I could start offering water at 6 months but I'm not going to if I don't need to. Why can't you use spring water? Is water purified via a Britta ok??
I hadn't heard about that couple....how scary! I know it shouldn't make a difference, but I felt less bad for them after I read that one couple already had 2 children and the other couple already had 3. I know it's an awful thing to go through but it would've been worst if either one couple or both didn't have children at all. Hope I don't eat my words when I start trying for #2!

lora - we're not doing cereal because both boys were having a really hard time pooping. Pedi office said to give fruit to loosen them up, and stop cereal as it is "binding". I'm guessing when they get a little older and their iron reserves diminish they can have some. Until then...sticking with fruits and veggies.
And too funny - we have the same exersaucer
It is one of the few things that I let dh pick out when we went to register. After the fact I realized that it takes 12 batteries to make everything light up!! I only put batteries in a few things right now, til they are better able to manipulate everything. Right now they're satisfied by looking at and chewing on everything. I'm so cheap (ok, frugal is a nicer word!).

Thank you so much Sherb! I just told Dh last night that she is starting to look like a "little girl" instead of my "baby girl" makes me happy and sad!
I bought Gerber Pear Juice with no added sugars,I gave her 2 oz and she freaked out on me when it was empty! I don't want to make a habit of her drinking too much juice either though. Your babies all eat way more than Hailey does! But she also sleeps from 7pm til 8am now!
8am: 4oz bottle
11am: fruit
2pm: 4oz bottle
4pm: veggies
6:30pm: 7oz cereal bottle
I have tried feeding her every 2 hours to add more formula, but she wont do it. You think that's enough formula for one day? She's definately gaining enough weight! Maybe I'm just paranoid!? lol

re stuffy noses -- saline drops ('little noses' is a nice one for infants, 'ocean breeze' was good too but i haven't seen it at all recently) can help, especially before you suction. we use the drops but don't suction.
vaporizer/humidifier also helps. we've used both 'hot' and 'cold' versions. DH is super concerned about mold (cleaning) but i'm more low key.
is it fri yet? ;-)
