    Tummy Sleeping?

Is anyone doing this? Emily is about to outgrow her reflux wedge/sling combo and she gags and coughs when she is on her back. So we have been trying tummy sleeping for naps with our movement sensor in her crib. So far no problems, but I still worry about SIDS. She can lift and turn her head really really well and all. I will feel better when she can roll over too!

    TIA!

We also do naps with DS on his tummy. He is able to put himself to sleep in that position. At night he is swaddled and is put on his side (he usually falls asleep while nursing and then we move him). I was just thinking about whether or not daycare will put him on his tummy for naps??? He lifts his head well and can roll from his tummy to his back so I don't think it's a problem (?)

I would be WAY too scared until at least 6 months. It is just too risky. Maybe you could put her on her side or at least get an angelcare moniter? 80% of SIDS deaths occur in our babies' age group. We all went through too much for our babies to risk this. Not to be preachy, but honestly, far too risky.

Kasey is right. Our babies are at peak risk for SIDS right now. I wouldn't do ANYTHING to increase that risk. My first DS was a reflux baby too, and slept better on his tummy. I didn't let him sleep that way until he was around 9 months old, though. Way too scared. kasey had some great suggestions. . .

Hi Ya'll! Thanks for the information! I will hold off on putting her on her tummy to sleep for a while...I do have one of the Angelcare monitors, but still. I think we will have to tough it out learning to sleep on the back again. She did great from the hospital but with the wedge it's what she knows. The wedge is starting to come apart and she is just too big for it. Right now she is in her crib on her back and went to bed asleep but woke up almost immediately. I am letting her CIO....all is quiet now...fingers crossed!!!

When does the peak risk for SIDS end. I know that it is generally from 0-6 months. But is the worst from months 3-4 or 4-5??

When can I worry about something else??

Peak time is 2 - 4 months, I think. After 6 months, risk starts to go down - pretty low risk by 1 year.

There is always something else to worry about, isn't there?
