Acupuncture NYC

Hi everyone

I wanted to throw the question out there again about acupuncturist in NYC - there is another thread but it is from June of this year.

I am just getting a grasp on my state when it comes to fertility - a very high FSH reading (18) in January that I didn't find out about until this month. I'm 39, DH 45.

I'm exploring options now so that I can go to an RE and not waste any time. I'm interested in acupuncture as an initial treatment for high FSH rather than drugs and am interested in acupuncture and maybe TCM (since they seem to go hand in hand).

Has anyone gone to or know about any of the following places? They all have their success stories but I'd rather hear from individuals.

http://www.activeacupuncture.com/
http://www.acupuncture-newyork.com/a..._fertility.htm
http://www.acupuncturecenter.com/index2.htm
http://www.dr-yang-acupuncture.com/

I'm learning towards Active Acupuncture or Dr. Yang but would appreciate any information or opinions.

Thanks!

Amazing - no one?

I had a consultation with Dr. Berkley and the reason his prices are higher than the other, so he says, is because he focuses only on female reproductive concerns. He does not do back pain, stomach pain etc unless it is related to the whole system of reproduction. Additionally, if you purchase bulk sessions - the prices come down drastically and are on par (if a few dollars more) than other acupuncturists.

Despite the high cost of a consultation with Dr. Berkley he said that we should wait until I get the basic diagnostic tests done before starting any treatment, because if there are physical blockages I would just be wasting time and money seeing him. I thought that was a good thing for him to point out.

Talked to some friends IRL and got the name of an additional acupuncturist.

Firefly:

I'm sorry no one has been able to help you so far. I'm on the whole other side of the U.S., and would only be able to recommend an acu-ist I know in Lewiston, Idaho.

The acu-ist you consulted has an interesting approach, very different than what is typical in an alternative field.

I hope you quickly find someone who can get you started with treatment.

Just FYI

Hi!
Mike actually used to do scheduled chats on this bb MANY, MANY years ago and has been an immense help in educating so many who asked for help. He did this free of cost and was really very helpful in so many ways for so many NYer who were then using the bb. Just wanted to let you know.
Also, he brings up a good point about having the basic workup done. High FSH is one issue, but how are you as far as your tubes, uterus, etc. Have you had those things checked out? The more you know about the state of your body, the more a reputable alternative practitioner will be able to aid.
The very best to you in your journey.

Hi I haven't had accu. in the city but I live in CT and went to see a woman who has several degrees (or whatever you call it in accu.) and she seemed to know what she was doing. I later went to a doctor (neropath) that does accu. I used both of them during my IVF treatments (I had an FSH of 17 at 35) and they both seemed to put the needles in the same spot each time. The only diff was one used bigger needles. I got preg. with the first IVF (not iui's etc.)

Sorry I should have said more. Point being I don't think you necc. have to spend more money. If they know what they are doing for fert. then it should be the same spots. Also I would start now (if not too $$). They say with Accu. you need to do for several months to get your body geared up and in tune. I went for about 6 months total. I know this kind of not so attractive place down in chinatown (but a lot of chinese people go there...i knew a chinese lady from work who went there for acc.) I went there for accupressure massage

You may want to try it out since it is cheap until you after your testing phase.

Yeah - I thought it was weird about not starting - but I go in today for my first RE consultation so I will begin the battery of diagnostic testing - and I figure that I have at least 3 weeks until I can do a HSG (the check the tubes test?) - so I will start next week I think.

Thanks for the input - and I will check out that link later today.

NY accupuncture

Please tell me how much the place in Chinatown charges for accupuncture. It sounds great. Maybe now I can afford it if it's cheap. I don't want a massage even though it sounds good. How do u reccommend for the accupuncture and do they give you herbs and stuff too? I'm gonna call tomorrow.

I believe Fishion charges somewhere in the 30-45 range but I haven't been there in a few years.
