Anyone here do it?
I just bought a couple of books and a kit (they haven't come yet) that describe it as being really easy. It seems so. Steaming and mashing up veges and such. I think it's a good idea as I have read that baby food in jars can sit on a shelf for like 3 yrs!!! I don't want my LO eating anything that's older than he is!!
Also, I have heard that baby food doesn't taste like what it really is. Like carrots don't taste like carrots, etc.
Any experiences?

Making baby food

My mom watched ds until he was 2. She would make him baby food, steam it and mash it. I was working when she did it but she said he liked it a lot. She mostly did sweet potatoes, apples and carrots. I think if you have the time to do it, do it. I bet it's a lot cheaper than jarred food too.

Making baby food is easy breezy (so easy even my DH can do it)! All I ever did was cook veggies or fruit and then put them in my food processor and puree. I would make a big batch of whatever and then spoon it into ice cube trays, cover with plastic wrap and pop in the freezer. The ice cube trays made the perfect portion size for my lo's. I baked sweet potatoes, butternut squash and also apples and pears together w/a splash of applejuice. I would sautee summer squash w/a bit of butter until soft. Everything else like peas I steamed. I have no idea how much money I saved making my own baby food, but I noticed today at the store a 2-pack container of baby food sweet potatoes, about 6 ounces total was $1. I buy regular sweet potatoes by the pound for less than $1/pound. Then I think about all the packaging I would've gone through over the last year or so.
I was never brave enough to taste the baby food I made for my girls, so not really sure what it tastes like...
Good luck, it really is super simple and so worth it!

I also made my DD's babyfood. It's super easy. You pretty much put in a blender or food processer whatever you'd like to feed your LO. I would buy fresh when I could but I would also buy frozen (green beans, sweet peas, mixed veggies that had the corn in it). Like the PP, I would pour in ice cube trays, pop them out, then freeze. I used this website as a reference and for ideas. Good luck!

I have three kids and never bought a jar of baby food! I also have pretty good eaters, not perfect, but they are willing to try new things and will eat what we eat as a family. I pureed their food and did the ice cube tray thing, too. For my third baby, we bought one of those food grinders (for when she was a little older) and ground up dinner in that for her to eat.
I agree with you that I wasn't giving them food that tasted awful!! and, then expecting them to eat regular food later!
