MMR Shot

DS will be 1 in August and I am getting so freaked out about this. We have done all his others shots, just slowly. 2 in 1 visit then come back in a month for the remainder and my Ped is fine with this.

We will be moving next month and I have spoken to a ped on the phone who is fine with taking the shots slowly but said they cannot split the MMR.

I have a nephew with autism and a lot of the little boys on my MOm's side of the family have ADD/ADHD. I'm so afraid of 1 shot affecting my son his entire life. I was doing some research this morning and reading that Merck had stopped making the sperate MMR shots, they will start again but not be available until 2011.

What to do, I feel like I will be forced to give him the shot, wil delaying it make a difference at all.

The state we are moving to AL, does not recognize religious or other exemptions to vaccines, if that was a route I wanted to take.

Thank you,
Tracy

I would refuse the shots. your child is young enough that you can wait until the separate vaccines come out in 2011-its only 2 years away.

I would hold off too. M didn't get hers until after 2 years old.

I'm not sure what you mean about them not recognizing exemptions? They don't accept them at all? Do you plan to take N to preschool at some point? I had to bring a waiver.

M, what am I reading is that they do not accept waivers at all. Unless our situation dramatically changes I do not plan on doing daycare for N, but would like to do preschool at least half days for him when he is 3.

Thanks

I was also very scared to get the MMR for ds. I have a niece and nephew who are autistic and my dss is autistic, so I put it off. Since he was with my mom, I didnt need to get it until we wanted to put him in daycare after he turned 2.

If you arent planning on putting him in daycare, then I'd wait. You can wait til you are ready to send him to preschool.

FWIW, I've read about mmr and autism and i seriously dont believe there is a link, BUT there is nothing wrong with being a little overly cautious. My ds had absolutely no side effects from the shot.

my ds has autsim and I seriously believe there is a link not only with the MMR but with others as well. Genetics loaded the gun and the vaccines pulled the trigger.

I agree, also it is better for thier brains after 3 y/o to handle the toxins involved from what I have read.

I plan to skip that one, but I am considering the Td b/c

1. we already HAD pertussis and are immune for a good while now
2. the pertussis component is the trigger in most of the negative effects reported

Read up on what can be split. I didn't know about the Td vs the DTaP until I researched.

I waited with my 3rd child until he was 5 and will do the same for my 4th.

Then I would just hold off. I was able to use a wavier for M and will wait until they're split with L, and probably even longer. I put M in preschool at 2.5 for about 2 days a week, three hours a day. If they had not accepted the waiver I would have waited. I'm more apprehensive with L being a preemie and a boy so I'm just erring on the side of caution. I'll hold off for him as long as possible, school age if neccessary.
